Some do keep two sets of books, particularly to manipulate depreciation to delay taxes. However, they don’t keep two sets of books to dodge taxes and defraud outsiders.

Trump’s two sets of books?

The one in which Trump Tower looks like a dilapidated shack on tax returns but looks like the Taj Mahal on bank loans and insurance valuations?

They are BOTH fiction. They are BOTH exaggerations, lowballing when low values are to the liar’s advantage and highballing when high values are what he wants.

And no, it is not a matter of “subjective valuations.” When Trump estimates his own apartment in his own building at ONE THIRD the actual square footage (an objective number in reality) and even lies about the number of bedrooms, it is not a difference of opinion in “subjective valuations.” It is a matter of criminal intent to defraud.

The fact that there are two different and conflicting valuations further demonstrates that it is not a matter of different opinions on “subjective valuations” but rather outright intent to defraud.

The outcome is that we will likely see some new and much improved signage popping up around New York very soon: “Letitia James Tower” on fifth avenue and, a few blocks away, “E Jean Carroll Tower.”

Oh well, it is New York, New York. He did it his way (apologies to Frank Sinatra). All the way to prison.

I doubt Trump was the only landholder in New York City who used two sets of books like this. He’s not nearly bright enough to have been the only one who ever thought of using this scam. I would hope the city is looking for others who are doing this, and is planning to prosecute all of them for fraud. And the accounting firms that signed off on these cooked books should be charged with aiding and abetting. This is most likely the tip of a very large iceberg.

Not until the GOP returns to believing/accepting the objective truth will there be any hope for America not losing its democracy.

If the GOP continues to pander to the Toddler Caucus there won’t be a Repub party. It will splinter like dropping a crystal goblet on a rock slab floor.

Speaking of fiction…Bidenomics is good for the country…Not only did Joe Biden fail to reduce prices, “Bidenomics” has made inflation worse. Here’s what Americans are currently facing:• Gas prices are up 63%.• Real wages have gone down for Americans.• Prices are skyrocketing 3 times faster under Biden.• Mortgage rates are changing for the worse under Biden.• Saving rates of Americans have collapsed under Biden.Independents see this and will vote accordingly.

And then there’s the sci-fi that spins around trump’s mind to be spewed at random moments.

What a bunch of nonsense. High valuations for insurance is a crime? It happens every day. It’s how it is done. Even on shows like Antiques Roadshow where the value estimates range from retail, wholesale, auction , and the highest one – “for insurance purposes”. Is that show proposing criminal activity?

Think of a house. The buyer puts a lower price on it. The seller has a higher price. Neither would equal the value at a forced auction sale. And those prices reflect the value today. Need to replace it with new? Well, likely a higher price. So do you buy insurance at actual cash value or replacement value?

But even the highest of those prices do not reflect the cost to you in a total loss. Where would you live while it’s being rebuilt? How about contents? Additional time demands on you? loan interest? And on and on.

Criminal? Hell no.

When you’ve lost actors from the left, you are indeed in trouble. Actor Dax Shepard says it’s “insane” that President Joe Biden is the “best option” to run the United States.

“It’s so embarrassing, I’m not willing to lie about that,” the star said.

“I just saw a clip of Biden yesterday,” Shepard said. “He is addressing the victims of the Maui fire, and he is comparing a small kitchen fire he and his wife had in their home to this devastating [fire].”

Unfortunately, trump’s followers, if given the opportunity, would do the exact same thing.

We had a Condominium management company ( we inherited from the builder) here in Michigan, convince us that their keeping two sets of books was an efficient way to manage our condominium’s finances. When the Board asked for justification for their requested special assessments, they based their numbers on the “projected outcomes” book. When we asked which one they used during an audit, they declined to answer clearly. That’s when we started vetting other management companies.

Back in the Sixties, the company my dad {an accountant} was working for sent him to Barcelona to work with integrating a Spanish company that the parent company had bought a big chunk of.

He informed us that SPanish companies – with the knowledge of the government – had “los libros oficiales” and “los libros reales”.

The government would inform the company of how much tax they had to pay. – which was generally less than the “reales” set would have them liable for, but more than the “oficiales” set would.

The company was expected to bargain with the taxman – sometimes, they were actually able to decrease the bill – but both sides would come away satisfied.

But, if the company fought too hard, or tried to go below what the taxman considered acceptabl;e, the government would – essrntially – say “Hmmm – perhaps we were wrong. We’ll see if we were – by examining ALL the books…”
