I’m ambivalent about this. I’m personally opposed to dress codes for myself. But people DO pay attention to clothing, so I’m inclined to think that the folks we’re paying to represent us ought to at least mostly dress the part.
I suppose this is why homeless people are ignored because they are not in the ‘proper’ attire. I wouldn’t think that wearing a lasso for a tie wasn’t proper either. Just as well you are not here, as we have opened another nude golf day and no one worries about attire. The US has so many hang ups.
Missing the norms of the past is pretty normal for old people longing to return to where none can go. My physicians used to wear ties (they were all white males). Now they dress more informally (and they are not all white males). The advance of quality health care proceeds regardless.
Now THAT’S funny (but sad that the Dummycrats chose to lower the bar because of one slovenly dressed member of the Senate unwilling to follow the rules.)
I wouldn’t say I like the casual attire trend in general. When I went to work at the University, I wore a coat and tie every day. When I ran a contracting firm, I wore carpenter’s whites. In my day, you dress in the appropriate dress for the position.
However, If Senator Fetterman does his job and is in the Senate to govern, I say live and let live.
Being as decorum is slowly eroded everywhere, it’s only a matter of time till we see members wearing jeans with holes or the ever popular hip-hop sagging pants.
Interesting that the RWNJ ’toonists – Goodwyn, Bok, Varvie – are all busy drawing a certain Relatively Young, Tall, Muscular, Male, US Senator minimally clothed.
Makes one wonder about certain … attitudes … does it not?
Yes, let’s focus on someone’s clothing. Much safer than holding people accountable for their support for a narcissistic sociopath or their dog whistle politics.
One can be quite presentable without formal business attire. The presumption that anybody in congress would take a casual dress code to the point of nakedness is stupid.
At least he is not a Dick Chaney who, on the floor of the Senate, told a senator to ‘go F*** himself’. The elected representatives have a long way to go to get the important business of the people done, not the frivolous theater of re-election.
In a press release issued by the senator’s office on Wednesday, Fetterman said that “if those jagoffs in the House stop trying to shut our government down, and fully support Ukraine, then I will save democracy by wearing a suit on the Senate floor next week.”
If tuberville keeps showing up in suit and tied and continues to block the military, and if gaetz continues to fight to shut down the entire government, and if mcconnell continues to place right wing pre-selected undefeatable supreme court nominees who do what they’re told, does the hoodie mean Fetterman is not a good Senator?
Yes, the Republicans are definitely better-dressed. And much more pathetic when it comes to actually governing. An idiot in a $3000 suit is still an idiot.
I watched Federman for the past couple of days. He seems to be doing better at talking and making sense. But his childish behavior shows that he thinks he is better than anyone else. If you require your staff to dress for the job, you should be an example. The Senate, and the House are work place, not a playground for someone who thinks they are better than all the Senators and Representatives. Federman is an embarrassment to his position and office.

When your own party is in shambles and disarray, lie about the dress code of the other party.

I am not happy about Fetterman’s attire. At least he tries to get things done. Get the military promotions advanced A budget or CR passed.

Maybe Fetterman is on his way to a Republican Family Values lecture with Republican hero Boebert.

The only appropriate dress code for a lot of those congress people is the orange one that they give in prison.

A lot of companies gave up on the suit and tie a long time ago. It’s how you act, not how you dress that’s important.

The rules were changed by the majority leader in order to please this one Senator. Gotta maintain power.

Business suits are a throwback relic of the days when white men ruled society without question. Long overdue to be changed!

The business attire worn by the GOP is thin veneer that covers their clown suits.
