And what does it say about Veeblefester that he has employed Brutus for so long?

Will Brutus still be fired tomorrow?

Tell him you really need your job.

When Rancid sees the applicant pool, he’ll hire Brutus back in an instant.

After all, he used him for a reference to get this job.

Bike him the reference and send him to your main competitor.

Without Thornapple, Veeblefester will have no script.

I’m sad that Brutus got fired… Hope Veeblefester has a change of heart and gives him another chance.

Brutus really doesn’t want to work anymore.

Well it’s all for the best. I, myself would have a hard time working for a boss and keeping from breaking out giggling when the boss has such long and thick back hair that it grows up through his shirt collar and reaches his neck!

Poor Brutus, all of that may be true, but Veeblefester didn’t have to come out and say it like that!

To paraphrase Rodney Dangerfield, Brutus don’t get no respect…

You can’t quit me…I fire!

I remember when George Costanza got mad and quit in a tirade, had second thoughts and just showed up for work the next day like nothing happened. Brutus could do that.

Veeblefester won’t know what to do without his favorite whipping boy.

He can’t be fired. The boss needs to blame SOMEONE for his screw-ups and Thornapple is the usual fall guy.

I had to fire a few people. By the time the decision was made, discussion time was over. I NEVER asked them “what do you say about that?” I just walked them to the door.

I had to fire someone for unauthorized use of the company credit card. (He charged up over $800.00 of personal items. Including an X-Box!) About 3 weeks later, he called me and asked if he could use me as a reference! I told him… “At your own risk!”

I wouldn’t fire the guy who hasn’t killed you yet only because you pay him.

You may want to reconsider. Where can you replace Brutus at his salary?

Brutus: Unclear on the concept. (I think Bossman will get over his snit anyway.)

“Veeblefester” will be begging Brutus to return when he interviews new applicants and they keep checking their Smartphones during interview.

Hah! Brutus knows he won’t be fired. Boss knows he won’t fire him. And Brutus just messed with his head by not falling to his knees pleading for his job like Rancid wanted. Well played Brutus. Btw love the shading on Rancid’s neck which shows how mad he really is at Brutus’s question! Great strip!

Brutus, this is a golden opportunity for you to look for a job that might be a lot more rewarding, and with a much nicer boss.

I really doubt that Brutus was fired. The Boss is always spouting off at Brutus for various things all the time, yet he gets sent on business trips fairly regularly and they golf fairly regularly. The boss will get over it and things will go back to normal soon. Brutus’s response to the Boss was classic though. It showed chutzpah, and bravado if he is being fired. But It also showed his understanding of the boss that he is just venting, if he’s not. A win-win for Brutus……

This could have been a Blondie comic strip in another one of Mr. Dithers firing Dagwood Bumstead situations.

The Chief’s expression in the last panel was his answer to Brutus’s question.
