   I don’t know if they still do this, but when we lived in Germany, they would show all their commercials up front, and then the show would continue uninterrupted. PBS does this, too.

   It all depends on what your interests are. I just watched a fascinating Nova episode about the brain, and learned so much about how we perceive things so differently. There’s good stuff out there, but sometimes it’s hard to find.

   I do the same. I don’t have the patience to sit through all those commercials, especially the drug and Medicare ones.

   You speak the truth. I don’t do this any more, but years ago, whenever I baked chocolate chip cookies, only about half the dough would become actual cookies. My willpower has vastly improved since then, but the desire is still there.

   When I knew I was going to have a sub, I’d come as close to possible to threatening my students with death if they gave him/her any trouble. I told them that I was going to have the sub write down the name of anyone giving them trouble, and then parents would get called. Subs were valuable, and I wanted them to want to come back to my classes if I needed them.
