Like every other problem, Republicans’ solution is: Elect Us! There was never a drug problem when Republicans were in power.

BTW, has anyone ever told Goodwyn about the indictments?

On what planet is the government responsible for 100K drug overdose deaths?? Al, you want non-government interference, then the people of America need to take responsibility for their actions. The government isn’t responsible for people’s decisions to pop pills, drive drunk, cheat on their spouses, beat their kids, be bad to animals, etc…..that’s people’s decisions. People are responsible.

I wonder why if this is a big deal to the republican party what cure has the GQP majority in the House proposed to stop it? I guess the same thing they proposed to fix worldwide inflation and lower gas prices, Nothing. I went to Walmart today and food prices are way down. I could afford beef and some pork. Thank you, President Biden.

The Republicans control Congress, what programs have they legislated for to help the drug problem?

In the meantime record amounts of drugs are not making it to the dealers. Thank you President Biden.

Take an economics course, Goodwyn. It’s supply and demand. And the demand is high in the US. Users aren’t victims, they’re willing customers and they have the money to spend on it. The war on drugs proved the only thing the government can do is make it worse.

You want to end the drug problem, kill the demand because the supply will never go away.

Is it “government’s fault” when it’s more socially acceptable drug?Alcohol causes 140000 deaths/year. And the “champ” tobacco with over 7 million deaths plus over 1 million deaths of non-smokers. Do farmers receive subsidies for crops that create those drugs? Which states benefit from those subsidies?

Addiction is a disease and should be treated as such. Taking shots to score political points is callous and ignorant.

another non sequitur…What does addiction have to do with government? Is government forcing these addicts on drugs? The last time I looked, we’re in a capitalistic economy, so the market rules. Should we then conclude that the free market is at work?

Coming of age in the 60s, I had my encounters with illegal drugs. I took them in defiance of, not because of, government. Indeed, that was part of the cachet.

For years there were efforts made, and the conservative mantra was it would just encourage use. Now withe the opioid crises they are just waking up.

    Al,

Are you implying that this is the fault of the FDA? Or are you suggesting that this results from criminal distribution and addiction? However, whichever one, what are you suggesting the Federal Government should do?

Goodwyn, for your own benefit learn a bit about biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology and maybe a little bit of brain function and anatomy. At least then, you might not look so foolish.

So Mr. Goodwynn is they type of conservative who complains bitterly about government, wants small government, thinks government ruins things, but complains when the government is not doing “it’s job”.

You want to know why there is a drug problem in the USA, just turn on your TV.

You want to lose weight, take a pill. You want to gain weight, take a pill. You can’t get it up, take a pill. You feel depressed, take a pill. You aren’t eating right, take a pill.

Is there any wonder why people think they can find what they think that they want by taking illegal drugs?

True when has the government fixed anything, they started the war on poverty in the 60s and spent the surplus and created the national debt.

I see that you offer no viable solution to the problem. You sound like the rest of the Republican Party. You offer criticism but no solutionsYou really do not have any semblance of a clue about either drug addiction or poverty and causes them do you? The two seemingly separate issues are in ways inextricably linked together. While I am not a drug addict, my brother is a recovering opioid addict and I am very familiar with the struggles that he has had to endure to recover.

Have you any suggestions, Mr Goodwyn? You understand that most illegal drugs are smuggled in by our own citizens, yes?
