And why can’t you behave like Tom Hanks? Besides, he makes it look so easy . .

    How misandrist.

Maybe there seems to be more beasts because there are so few beauties anymore. I’m not talking about physical beauties here either.

At least she’s reading. Yes, read depressing nonfiction so you will think the world is awful and you have nothing to look forward to in life.

Yes, and while you’re man-hating, go on ignoring all those “Women of WalMart”… or all the Karens out there demanding to see the manager…

I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again:

White males are the absolute last group it’s not only safe to denigrate and portray as dumb hick slobs, but which you are ENCOURAGED to.

EVERY other “group”—be it self-selecting or racial or whatever—is an “aggrieved minority” it’s not safe to mock.

Look at any TV sit-com of the past 25 years. “The Simpsons,” “Home Improvement,” “Friends,” “The Drew Carey Show,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Modern Family,” and so on. The men are dumb schulbs, hapless idiots, or socially clueless; the women are depicted as either wiser or at least “street-smart” smarter. And maybe I don’t watch the “right” shows, but go ahead and name any recent show where the woman/women are portrayed as dumb airheads, say ever since “Three’s Company.” Even characters that started out as airheads (Phoebe on “Friends,” Penny on “The Big Bang Theory,” etc.) were shown developing “smarter than the guys” wisdom as the shows progressed.

I agree about the fairy tale thing, but come on… the world’s greatest literature is all fiction!

Men will never put the amount of pressure on women that other women put on women.

Well, some of us “beasts” are really nice guys. I ain’t never been called handsome, tend to scare people, but trustworthy? Honorable? Yeah…

I’m guessing the lady in the last panel has self esteem issues. In my considerably limited experience, men with odious personalities who are in a relationship with an attractive woman are themselves physically attractive. Less physically attractive men who are in a relationship with an attractive woman have much more pleasant and stable personalities.

And if the adult women in their lives are any indication, you can forget “Happily Ever After!”

Whatever happened to common sense?  11 months ago

Both men and women are guilty of this behavior today. Go to any store, especially during the summer, and you will see lack of grooming and slobbish attire on both sexes.

Whatever happened to taking pride in ones appearance and appearing presentable in public?

If you want to keep them away from ‘fiction,’ then you definitely need to keep them away from ANY Bible.

I see that on TV sitcoms, but not in real life. Unless the ugly guy has lots of money. All those TV sitcoms with the beautiful wife, dumpy husband are written by men.

I never considered myself handsome, and felt lucky and blessed to find a woman who would marry me. Over 30 years of marriage, and she still puts up with me. Would I love to see her wear something skimpy, even just around the house? Yes. Does she? No. But I still love her.

so what? people can’t just have dreams and hopes while they go through their ordinary lives and all the problems around with it? books are there to help you relax, dream and forget your problems or pain for a bit…no need to make her MENTALLY CRASH, even more, at SUCH A YOUNG AGE!

What’s wrong with fiction? The only kind I don’t care for are the sappy romances.

Val needs a little enlightenment – readers of fiction show higher levels of emotional intelligence and empathy than readers of non-fiction, skills highly important in the workplace. And seriously, why is she simply not happy to have a child that reads? She can teach Holly about the real world without criticizing her reading material.
