Veterans Day is not about the wars; any war. Sometimes the wars are avoidable; many times not. It’s about both peacetime and wartime military personnel. It’s about the now only 0.4% of current American men and women who willingly offer to take up arms for the protection of our country and the 7.3 percent of all living Americans who have served in the military at some point in their lives. Veterans Day is about the “offer” of ultimate sacrifice for an ideal bigger than oneself; that ideal being the United States of America and the willingness to protect it and the foundation it is based on.
May’s Memorial Day is about the ones who did in fact sacrifice all.
