Self-indulgence is treating yourself the way you want others to treat you.

Parents should learn to be more specific.

Calvin, you should know about principles, after spending so much time in his office…..

You need a license to drive.. but not to parent

First you have to install those principles, mom and dad. Good luck with that.

This is just as wise as “let your conscience be your guide!” Jiminy Cricket, we have a lot of people with malformed consciences running around loose today!

Face it, Calvin—your parents are a pair of hypocrites!!

Hobbes, total self-reliance is ideal—but unreal, especially when you grow old and the world keeps changing technically.

Of course total self-indulgence is a principle. We see it every day on the news and in our communities.

Today’s strip is similar to one in which Calvin told Hobbes, “I live my life by one strong principle.” Hobbes replied, “Really? What is it?” Calvin told him, “Always look after number one.”

There are, of course, times when Calvin deviates from this principle and shows genuine concern for someone else such as the time when Mom was ill. “It’s hard to be a mom to a mom.”

Just pounce on him, Hobbes……

It is a political principle.

Nice to be able to take a walk in an open field…can’t really do that these days!

It is for Trump.

I’m pretty sure they mean the principles they believe in.

Self-indulgence is not a principle in the USA, it’s a political party.

It is, just not a good one.

Hobbes is right. But he is in a world where that is a way of life for the majority. The principle? ME first.

That would be considered “unprincipled” or “politically expedient” depending on the flavor of your ambition.

Nihilism is not a principle.

LOL… Gotta absolutely LOVE Hobbes. Calvin’s “ID”, for sure. The ID is the personality component made up of unconscious psychic energy that works to satisfy basic urges, needs, and desires. Yep, that’s Calvin.

What kind of principles do the parents think an 8 year-old boy have?

Amusing to see a six year old and a stuffed feline taking about principles in life.

Silly, isn’t it? Modern parents these days, anyway. Self-indulgence is a hallmark in the life of all kids.

A real top of the line predator like a tiger should agree with self-indulgence. Hobbes, on the other hand, is talking like he’s just full of…stuffing.

Hobbes is a shining star in the philosophical world.
