Just wait ’til you start wondering why we park in driveways and drive on parkways.

Actually, she’s correct.

A freeway is called that because you don’t pay a toll every time you drive on it.

Most highways have cross streets and signals, freeways have ramps and higher speed limits.

what about the expressways and motorways?

All that money sending them to a private school is finally paying off!

The highway is also the alternative to my way.

And why don’t they install seeing-eye sidewalks for blind driveways?

Don’t forget “wind breaker”…..

One is made of love, the other goes to hell.

Freeway, Highway, Street, Road, Lane, Boulevard, Avenue, Parkway, etc. Someone should compile a chart with definitions for each.

What about an airway? carraway? stowaway? gangway? broadway? Safeway?

I’ve been high on a freeway, but that was 40 years ago. Now I feel free on a highway.

When we were little, we often tried to figure things out. When I was their age, I thought that all the guys that died on the westerns were those on death row. They were given a choice: play in the western, get shot and if you survive, you’re free. That explanation made perfect sense.

This is all too much for me, I’m gonna Bypass it…

Highways can be drought with traffic signals stop signs, stoplights etc and can have cross traffic on them. Freeways will have speed regulations of course but will be free of stop signs and cross traffic . General rule. From a kids definition, sounds about right …..

Parkways were built by Robert Moses as he owned beaches and parks on Long Island and they were built that only cars can be driven on them because in that era, the black community did not have cars, they took buses and his parkways would not accommodate buses or trucks. So NO BLACK people on his properties, they had to stay at the city beaches and parks.

It’s as simple as that!

And why is there an interstate highway in the state of Hawaii?

A friend of mine who drives all over the country on vacations calls a freeway a “highway.” I get confused sometimes, but she is an excellent driver. Just too fast. At a certain speed, your chances of surviving a crash are almost nil, and she will regularly exceed that. Daily.

This discussion has gotten way out of hand.

Highway was raised to reduce mud. Freeway tended to attract highwaymen. Tollway hired guards.

And what’s the deal with Big Gulps? Does anyone really need that much Mountain Dew?

now that cannabis is legal for recreaqtional use, “highway” should be self explanitory.

Just don’t get high on the freeway!
