I suspect that there is no need to explain “Vista” to most people following this comic.

I remembered ME, so I avoided Vista completely.

Vista is still a thing, it’s just that nobody remembers it.

I managed to avoid ME and Vista, and moved from 98 to 7. Still stuck with Windows even now, 11 on newer hardware and 10 on older that doesn’t support 11. I keep saying I’m gonna move to Apple (or Linux) but can’t seem to break the inertia. :(

Vista made me happy that I was never an “early adopter.”

When my wife needed a laptop we bought her a Dell, partly because they gave option to downgrade to XP, which almost nobody was still doing. Later went to 7 on it. Still have it but it won’t boot. Seems dead, and new battery didn’t do it.

It wasn’ only computer stuff that the gags could be very, very time specific about. It was also pop culture: TV shows, movie openings, musical trends, and so on. When I need to do reruns (I’d rather not have to do so many) I scroll through the archives, and run into so many that seem dated to the point of needing an explanation as a period piece. Being current in the writing aways seems great At The Time. But some gags simply don’t age as easily as others. so they get captions for those who might not remember what the gag was about.

Reading today’s comments, we see a mix. Some remember Vista all too well. Some have no idea what it was. We’re resigned to the knowledge that we’ll always see “I don’t get it” comments on references.

Was Vista a Microsoft thing? I was using Snow Leopard at the time, I think. Now Apple has moved on from naming operating systems after rocks to California coastal cities. Using Monterey and thinking about Ventura.

Every second windows OS is crap. I am sorry I had to get 11 on my new machine. M$ finally upgraded notepad, after almost 40 years, and broke at least one feature I use a lot.

I never had problems with VISTA. I have always suspected insufficient ram/hard drive, bad networks, and an office of low-bid identical computers with marginal timing/shielding errors.

Vista? Don’t forget Windows Me, OMG. it was filled with so many bugs Orkin ran and hid! Between the issues with Windows (BTW I loved Windows 3.11 and before) and the repeated failure of a hinge on my Dell laptop, I bought the first Apple Aluminum Powerbook laptop and have been Apple every since. No regrets. Powerbook lasted 7-8 years. Next iMac 12+ years but giving signs of age so finally got a new computer last week – Apple Probook 14". Love it.

I agree. Thankfully I don’t need a resume, all but two of the computer systems I used are out of business (ever hear of Scientific Data Systems?), none of the operating systems (except UNIX based OSes), and ALL the programming languages I knew are dead.

I have an old Gateway that uses Vista and it still works!! It works great for what I need it for. The only thing I had to replace on it over the years was the hard drive. It helps if you are not into newer stuff or otherwise it won’t work. Notice the smiles on both of the women. This was a good one!

So many commenters want to dump on Vista! Was it really that bad? I thought it was WAY better than ME (and I hated that acronym, too).
