Maybe it can be rebuilt. This storyline is rather depressing since my old elementary school was torn down at some point, and the place where it was looks like it was never there!

A dark plotline, but the building still having some thoughts and not being silent makes it slightly less dark.

So now Sally visits the brickyard. At least it’s a short drive from her house. Her parents won’t even have to drive very fast to get the the brickyard.

That last line by the brick is a great philosophical statement. When you love someone you also have to love them for the mess they make when they come unglued and have a self-deprecating fit!

This situation is not just “academic.” Several years ago, we lost a school to a tornado. This year we lost the equivalent of 50 classrooms worth of space due to burst water pipes during a cold spell.

It costs money to rebuild, but it also takes time. What do you do with the students in the meantime?

Considering Sally’s attitude towards education, I’m a little surprised that she likes the school so much. Perhaps a case of “it’s the content, not the container.”

I halfway thought Sally would take a few bricks of school home as a memento. But, surely, soon the whole area will be cauldroned off to prevent scavengers like me away from the remains of school.

The lack of basic infrastructure started back then and accented by the Flint water fiasco, the i-35 bridge collapse, and other such problems. A trip to https://www.infrastructurereportcard.org is sobering,
