The tragic origin of this is those Americans who voted for Trump. They failed to see the flagrant megalomania and narcissism, and voted their resentment and “victimhood”. They got a clown who enabled Putin and alienated our allies. The world remains in dire peril of nuclear holocaust as a result.
The Ukrainians are beating the “professional” and trained Russian army. 300,000 hastily trained recruits won’t stem the tide that is running against Russia.
I suppose Newton’s Third Law of Motion dictates that for every “Good Shepherd,” there must be a “Bad Shepherd,” equal in force and opposite in direction.
I would be very happy to see the last of Putin. I would be even happier to see the growth of democratic institutions in Russia. History shows, I think, that democracy is hard. I’m not a strict materialist, but I do suspect that democracy is possible only in certain economic and social circumstances. And even in those circumstances, it’s not inevitable. We can see in the US, which has an approximation to democracy, how fragile it can be. The Russians have had a couple of chances to build democracy and failed. Maybe they will have more success now.
Apparently, military training for the mass of Russian soldiers is almost non existent. This mass is used as a meat shield aka ‘forlorn hope’ for the more highly trained troops that will follow or are staying back and using artillery or other long distant weapons. Any survivors of the Russian meat shield then do most of the raping, torture and murder of the civilian population as their reward for surviving the initial assault. This is one of the ways that Russia keeps the population in check by ridding itself of excess males.
After the November elections you will see MAGA republicans announce their support of Russia over Ukraine. Anti-Ukranian rhetoric will fly freely from their wicked tounges. The bots on sites like this will be espousing the “Ukraine is Naziland” position. Please remember that Putin is an ally of the former disgraced US president and Zelenskyy is his enemy that refused the extortion plot to investigate his election rival and eventual Presidential victor Biden.

They were perfectly happy to support Putin’s war until they were told they had to fight in it. Serves them right.
