When you have poor grammar, you open yourself up to misinterpretation. Or maybe Earl really DOES stink. LOL

Doesn’t work in England. We’d say “You know I don’t smell very well”, making Pearl’s comment pointless.

Give him a brushing every day. If he has an oily coat, a rub down with a clean dry towel.

And don’t be shy, about a quick cleanse around the tail section.

This comic strip points out that the verb “smell” can mean “emit an odor” or “perceive an odor.” Samuel Johnson wanted to change that. On a hot day, he was sweating. A woman sitting near him said “Sir, you smell.” He replied “Miss, that’s not correct. You smell, I stink.”

An English (language) professor pointed these two sentences are each grammatically correct, but have different meanings:

“My husband likes football better than me.”

“My husband likes football better than I.”

    Each leaves some words implicit:

“My husband likes football better than [he likes] me.”

“My husband likes football better than I [like football].”
