Modern housecats are descended from African Wildcats. Although, unlike dogs, cats don’t really seem to have changed much since those days. I guess you can’t improve upon perfection, right Garfield?

Cats domesticated themselves because they liked the free meal. Same with dogs.

And they’ve owned us ever since.

The feline’s mutual, I guess.

It’s always the right time to reread Kipling’s “Cat that walked by himself”…

Garfield has made it obvious over the years. We don’t “own” our pets.

Apparently Jon doesn’t understand that he is Garfield’s pet.

It’s called: parallel domestication.

People have dogs, but cats have people.

Maybe Garfield should start feeding Jon.

There was some give and take involved. Both sides had to make adjustments until they reached an acceptable compromise.

There are some scientific papers that claim DOGS has a large part in civilizing early man.

cats are wild animals that live in your house.

So, Jon is reading fiction while Garfield i reading facts.

Cats and dogs domesticated humans. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Yep another case of human history trying to overshadow the truth. You got it right Garfield, you got it right.

What about the one strip where Jon was reading in a book about cats being smarter than dogs and humans, as well as how they should be pampered and that they’re a gift to mankind and should be served, until it’s revealed that Jon was actually making all of that up, which Garfield took umbrage to?

At first they put them in the pyramids with the deceased pharaohs until years later when they discovered that the cats knocked all the gold goblets on the floor.

Cats were once treated as Gods and they have NOT forgotten that.

Garfield’s book is correct. If you have a dog then your that dog’s owner. But if you have a cat then your the cat’s servant.

Humans did not domestic cats. We came to an arrangement with them.

Domestication is becoming a lost art!
