The Relgious Court can change laws, but even they cannot change the facts. Though I’ll not be surprised to find that they’ve ruled that in (some suthrun state), it’s legal to forbid the teaching of evolution. And illegal to forbid the teaching of “christianity”.
The Cartoonist could have added to the old meme by having the devolving hominid drag a female by the hair along with him, and an AR-15 strapped to his shoulder.
It may be time to pull an Andrew Jackson (a man I do NOT respect). When the Supreme Court told him he couldn’t kick indigenous people off their land in Georgia, he simply said, (and I paraphrase): “The Supreme Court has made their decision. Now let them try to enforce it.”
I was born in 1953. Growing up, I couldn’t wait for the 21st Century. I just knew that it would be a time when science and reason would take hold in America. So much for predicting the future.
Even if you assume that the Bible was written with as much attention to actual facts as possible, explaining that evolution was the process God used ( insert your definition of God) to create current species, including humans, it was interpreted by a populace that had less education than a preschooler currently has. It wouldn’t have been possible to explain the truth to them and have them understand it. The idea that it took a week to create the world is no where in Genesis, and the process is totally ignored. Genesis isn’t exactly untrue, it’s just the version that the people of the time could understand.
In the 21st century, I met a younger man who said he believed in evolution for animals, not for humans. We were created in god’s image. Obviously, he’d never been taught that humans are indeed animals. (I did not guffaw for which I was thankful. I did turn my head, rolled my eyes, and did palm slap :-))
I agree with the theme of the cartoon, but something struck me: The taller, obviously white man is the most advanced; the next in line, fully human, though less tall and white, is considered less advanced. In this time of increased sensitivity, artists need to be careful, more than before.
America is a tremendously diverse nation, but whom do we have on the Supreme Court? Still mostly men (5). Mainly white (7). Mainly non-Hispanic (8). Exclusively elites (4 Harvard Law, 4 Yale, 1 Notre Dame). Heavily Catholic (6, plus 1 Episcopalian raised Catholic, to go with the token Protestant and Jew; 0 atheists, 0 Muslims, 0 Hindus, 0 Buddhists, 0 Confucians, 0 Mormons, 0 Sikhs, and 0 pantheists). Mainly East Coasters (3 from New York, 2 from DC, 1 each from New Jersey and Georgia, the other 2 from Colorado and Louisiana). 0 rurals. 0 foreign-born. All (probably) straight. Mainly married (7 + 1 divorced). Almost all millionaires (8).
Obviously, they’re all intelligent, well educated, articulate, and able-bodied, which one can hardly hold against them (unless you’re Roman Hruska), but it diminishes their chances of being able to empathize with millions of Americans who aren’t.
Careful, Mike .. with cartoons like that, the Absurd Right will accuse you of porn-o-graphy! (Apparently there are some words the woke police won’t let you post.)
This was McConnell’s Coup. The right wants the states to be the laboratories of Autocracy. Monkey see, Monkey do………….Next awful judgement, just in time for the midterms, State Legislatures will be empowered to decide which votes get counted.

Never mind depictions of the SC extremists wearing priest or mullah outfits, they should be wearing Devo hats.
