What about your other grandfather, Marcie? Everybody’s pretty much has two grandfathers: one from the father’s side (mine died a few months before my older brother was born) and one from the mother’s side (mine died a month before my widowed fathered remarried).

As I observed a couple of days ago, Charlie Brown is in this series of strips addressing various members of the Peanuts gang as though he’s never met them before. Shouldn’t he already be aware as to whether Marcie has a grandfather or not? The way in which Marcie and C.B. interact with each other here is in the manner of strangers, not friends.

Of course Marcie the academic book-worm couldn’t read to her own grandfather. Presumably because he is off to the hockey team’s golf course for the summer. So you are out of luck Charlie Brown.

So, Marcie, your grand is still active. Good. But, he still might need a reader, especially if his sport is hockey. With all that body checking and slamming he might not have too many active brain cells left to read with. Yeh, yeh, I know, that’s a widely miss held view from the non-hockey players and most pucksters live into old, old age still playing the game and writing treatises about geopolitics.

    Age discrimination, Charlie.

During my last job search, I joined a networking group that taught people how to job search. I’ve been laid off so many times that I already knew most of the stuff. I attended mostly for moral support and to swap potential leads with the other attendees. Attending was well worth the effort.

I hold the record for the oldest person to “graduate” from the program at age 70. That was a couple of years back. They still use me as the poster child for people who feel like they are too old to get a new job.

Age discrimination in hiring is real. There is nothing you can do about employers who are closed-minded about it. The only counter to it is to be active and proactive. It also helps if you have a very salable skill like I do.

I played left wing with the SF rockets and was a top scorer. That’s a big deal when you are 12

With Marcie having a grandfather in professional sports, wouldn’t you think it would generate some interest in her for Chuck’s team? She could be a ‘diamond in the rough’ for CB’s All Stars just waiting to be discovered. Maybe such could get her out of her fog.
