Dick Tracy by Mike Curtis and Charles Ettinger for May 14, 2022

To the surprise of some commenters here, there seems to be a whole gang of police cars and officers outside. We see at least one of the delivery truck drivers from the previous scene.

Coffyhead still has the scratches, even in full sunlight, and is apparently injured badly enough to need medical care, but Bronko looks to be 100% perfect. Tracy is about to arrest him, so he has no idea who he is, but we really don’t either.

Those recliner chairs in the background look comfy. Wonder if I can get one for a good price at the police auction?

It looks like Coffy’s ‘beans’ got manhandled after all. Bronko looks too goody goody to actually be a real crook but more like an undercover as some have suggested. I’d love to see the look and the laugh on that coffee jockey’s face, who got slammed for a badly done espresso, when he sees Coffyhead as the feature story in tomorrow’s paper.

But he won’t be listening to the music of the gentle bossa nova. And the lights won’t be much brighter there. So he won’t forget all his troubles and forget all his cares.

Looks like Coffyhead is gonna have to start from scratch…

Luigi ain’t gonna take too kindly to Bronko mussing up his man’s purty lil face with them scratches lol

Usually snitches get arrested just like everyone else in order to protect their snitchiness.

Looks about time for coming attractions:

Nobody comments on Sam’s and Coffyhead’s identical bow ties? Yes, I know people noticed before, but side-by-side like that it just leaps out.

Is it me, or does everyone seem to shout, “Dick Tracy!” whenever they run into him?

“I’m arresting you for aiding and abetting. It’s the BIG HOUSE or you, punk!”

OFF TOPIC RANT: Having SO much trouble explaining to a Japanese artist what a tee-shirt is?!

And there we have it…..or do we?

It could be they are “arresting” him in order to preserve his “cover” even though Coffyhead believes he’s the snitch anyway. Or, they need him downtown to give an official statement. We’ll know more later.

COFFEE HEAD: WHAT??? Please! You’re making me blush! On one side. It’s a family trait.

2-STUDMAN: Here’s my interpretation of the Tonsil’s dance.

DT: Needs work. Say, do you want to buy tickets to a Policeman’s Ball?

STUDMAN: I’m not falling for that one again!

DT: Awh nuts! STUDMAN: Exactly.

DT: Fine. You’re going downtown then. STUDMAN: DAG! I guess it’s the old Policeman’s Ball after all.

DT: What? STUDMAN: Oh. Never mind.

still not confirmed he is the snitch…don’t think Tracy would put snitch in danger by only intercepting his shipments

Sam and Coffy got the ties in a two-for one sale.

When Coffyhead’s trial comes to court, will the guy Tracy is talking to need witness protection?

Apparently there were more employees of Coffy Imports…so the first panel indicates. They must have been loading the trucks and vans and never heard a thing.

So what was all the shooting the other day? We were led to believe that Tracy was shooting it out with Coffyhead but nothing seems to have happened as he just handed his gun over right away.

So all those bullets didn’t hit anyone?

Sam leads the scratched Coffyhead to a police car, while the latter decries “that rotten snitch!” So, he knows or at least has come to that conclusion. Tracy’s exchange of dialogue with Bronko in panel 2 is more ambiguous (no doubt intentionally), and we cannot really be sure if Tracy recognizes Bronko as Stuntman Mike or not, nor if he is simulating an arrest or just taking him downtown for appearances and/or to make a statement.

Still, it seems the major thrust of the story is resolved, and Sunday may just be a winding up, with some further exposition and a few loose ends tied down (though never all, goodness knows)….
