Had a dream the other night that I was driving and my car went off the road into nothingness. Then I woke up. Don’t know whether I’d like to find out what happened to me.
Mid-day yesterday I suddenly remembered I was supposed to do some important thing that didn’t seem to make sense, but before I could think of exactly what it was, it was gone. It was an unfinished task from a dream I don’t remember having.
While I was teaching every fall I would have a dream about a class I couldn’t control (never had one) and I would wake up with my throat hurting from yelling. When I retired every fall for years I had a dream that I was working and couldn’t find the Xerox machine to run off my test and realize I was working for free and why was I bothering?
The backstory on this strip is that Frazz had some early success as a songwriter and continues to receive royalties on his music which would let him live comfortably without having to work. He’s only a janitor at the same grade school that he himself attended because he likes kids. And, of course, kids like music — especially the sing-songy, rhymey kind — and apparently every one of them knows everything there is to know about Frazz’s private life. So why is it that there’s never, ever any allusion to music of any kind in this strip?
