Peter? That doesn’t dring a bell. As for the record, Cy Young’s 749 complete games. Or if you want a more recent player, Bob Gibson’s 255.

For more modern ones, Nolan Ryan’s strikeout record. No one’s ever going to even come close. Only three pitchers ever had more strikeouts/inning. Only one pitcher in the last century pitched more innings, and the active leader in innings pitched is over TWO THOUSAND innings behind. NO one has played more seasons. The way pitchers are protected these days, even with the explosion of strikeouts, no one will ever come within 1500 strikeouts of Ryan, and that much would be remarkable.

Cy Young’s 511 wins and 749 complete games. Neither of those are likely to even be sniffed at by a professional baseball player ever again.

Both Cobb’s 4,191 (or 4,189 depending on the source), nobody hits for average these days and Ripkin’s 2,131 consecutive games played, no one works that hard anymore plus players are coddled for fear of injury because the money involved these days

Greg Hamm? Hamm-er Time? Will Milford be in the mix for second in the Valley because of his long ball hitting exploits?

Scooter Borden the team bat boy or equipment manager? I hope not, his know-it-all persona would give these dignified roles a bad rap

So apparently Scooter and Gregg are on the baseball team. The other two guys are non-athlete losers, as they aren’t worthy enough to have names.

The colorists must have gotten purple ink on sale. It’s been out of control lately. Today we’ve got purple people in P1 and P3 and two people wearing purple jackets in P2. And speaking of purple, don’t turn purple yourself holding your breath for today’s Mopped Up Thorp. It’s here!

And don’t leave before the closing credits end. There’s a bonus.

I don’t know if it’s a record, but it would be rare to top Al Bundy scoring four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School.

    Oops, that’s football.

Based on the comments, NR & RW should make this a weekly feature. It sure wouldn’t hurt any of the plots.

My Grandfather (born 1898) told me he was at a game where Ty Cobb stole 2nd on the first pitch, then to mess with the pitcher, ran back to first on the second pitch; causing the umpires to dig through the rule book before allowing it. Supposedly, he then stole second on the third pitch. I’ve never seen the story anywhere, so I’m not sure if Grandpa was kidding me. Maybe Ellis might know.

Connie Mack has to have some untouchable managerial record considering he managed until he was old enough to doze off in the dugout during games on a regular basis
