Of course the right wingers are going to CALL it unfair, but in fact all it does is reduce the size of the candidate pool. You are still going to get a justice who’s excellent (from Biden) or a party hack (from a GQP appointment).

    Exactly!

So many racist people want to pretend that we live in a bell jar, insulated from history.

    We don’t, and we’re not.

As long as they regularly meet up with their untaxable cults where they worship a single imaginary being that dictates which rules to enforce.

And while they are at it, the Supreme Court needs to be expanded to 13.

There used to be a Catholic seat, and the first Jew wasn’t on the Court until Louis Brandeis in 1916.

Apparently, according to the RACISTS in the Qpublican Party, NO Black Woman can be qualified to be on the SCOTUS, since “Everyone Knows” that ONLY White MEN have the qualifications! *

*(Unless of course someone who is not an white man is nominated by a QPUBLICAN president, then they MUST be a legal genius!!)

As long as they have a good concept of the law and justice. Also Even when I was a Reagan republican I wanted to courts to lean left. Now more so. I want people of different walk of life. As a lower middle class white male. I don’t see how a Ivy league educated from a rich family represents me at all.

There is not only 9 people qualified to be on the Supreme Court (plus you can easily argue that appointing Kagan and Barrett with so little experience falls below being qualified). I have no idea what the actual number is, but let’s take the list Trump had during the election, 44, and multiple that by three to include an equal number of progressive and centrist options, giving us about ~130 options. Arguing over the “fairness” of who a president person selects out of those candidates seems silly.

Absolutely wrong to pick based on gender or color.. You gotta pick based on candidates position on abortion, voting of minorities and most important.. loyalty to the one that hired you.

GQP: Nominating a judge based on race and gender is what WE do. You guys must choose the most qualified to balance everything out.

SCOTUS should have a term limit of not less than 10 and not more than 20 years. And Chief Justice should be a 5 – 7 years in that office. It should rotate.

What would the Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan, think about today’s Republican Party, and in particular their attitude toward a president who said he’d be making a Supreme Court appointment based on gender? I know, let’s ask his son, Ron Jr.:

Nominating a Black woman is fine with me, but it does bother me that he isn’t going to consider any other women of color (i.e. Asian-American, Native American, etc.).

I was disappointed that he made such a specific promise. I would have been happier if he had just gone ahead and nominated a Black woman when the time came. There are lots of women qualified to be Justice, and a lot of Black women who are qualified.

This nation has been a giant affirmative action program for people Europe doesn’t need or want. Each step we take toward “liberty and justice for all”, most white folks only see loss of power and privilege.
