The only way in which Trump “Made America Great Again” was for those who wanted to see a return to a Supreme Court that would restore Dred Scot and Plessy v Ferguson.

Judges appointed by presidents who could not even win by getting the most votes — whose very positions on the bench are the result of an undemocratic system — want to ensure that the attacks undermining democracy as the means of selecting representation will continue unabated.

The ruling was not a final decision. It was overturning the lower court finding that the apportionment in Alabama violated the Voting Rights Act and electoral integrity Amendments to the Constitution. The judges determined that it was “too close to an election.” even though the midterms are still NINE MONTHS AWAY, and two of the Trump appointees were nominated and confirmed closer to an election than that, and even though the case was filed THE DAY AFTER THE APPORTIONMENT WAS ANNOUNCED, and the district federal trial court ruled promptly, so it was all done in the fastest possible time.

Carving up legislative districts to deliberately marginalize voting blocs on the basis of race (or any other protected criterion) not only violates what’s left of the Voting Rights Act, but clearly a violation of the Fourteenth, Fifteenth, Nineteenth, Twenty-Fourth and Twenty-Sixths Amendments (taken together) of the United States Constitution that were supposed to protect right to vote regardless of race and ensure equal protection of the laws.

I am sure that polls will show that the America public sees SCOTUS as increasingly partisan, ideological, and unpopular.

There is dissension among Supreme Ct. justices. The Court allowed Texas’ abortion ban to stand although it directly contradicted Supreme Court precedent and was written with the express intent to dodge federal court review. In the Alabama redistricting case, the case was heard although justices acted prematurely without benefit of oral arguments and without extensive briefing on an issue that would impact the political power of Black voters.

Racist gerrymandering happened all over the country, not just the South. Latinos and Asians were disenfranchised along with black voters by carving up their communities with the goal of user their segmented votes to elect white Democrats. This was found to be unconstitutional by prior court decisions, only to be reaffirmed by subsequent decisions of the court. Until we have a federal standard of how legislative districts should be drawn, we will continue to have a confusing hodgepodge of state rules and methods with the inevitable court challenges.

I see the mentally and morally defective Montana Swill is at it again…..Speaking of gerrymandering, take a look at what the Kansas legislature just did to re-draw districts for legislative representation. They overturned the governor’s veto of their contemptible gerrymandering. Out-and-out public bribery of a con artist pushing horse de-wormer to treat Covid—he switched his vote when his fellow crooks gave him protection from being investigated by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.

They’re not going to stop people from voting, just make it harder.

The court that will adjudicate us into Civil War II. Hope that when they install their Tiki torches at each end of the SCOTUS bench they will at least get the electric or battery version instead of the real thing.

Difficult to believe that with all the brilliant legal minds who have served over the decades in our US history, we now have these three plus Ginny Thomas deciding the country’s future.

Should rename the court to “The court of political hacks”. They are an embarrassment to our nation, and all the world is watching.

Democrats want all American citizens to be able to easily vote. Republicans are working to prevent people who are unlikely to vote Republican from voting. Which party is suppressing democracy and working to grab power?

We wouldn’t be where we are if Thomas had recused himself in clear-cut cases of conflict of interest.

By virtue of the US Constitution, the US Supreme Court is designed to be fair, ethical and non-partisan.

Our Country is weaker with a partisan Supreme Court but, thanks to former Majority Leader Mitch McConnell subverting the rules and to former President Trump appointing highly partisan jurors, partisanship is what we’ve got on the highest court in our land.

Truly, it’s a shameful turn of events for our Nation.

‘It is not legitimate political discourse!’: Judge slams RNC in blistering statement at MAGA rioter’s sentencing

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson invoked that phrase when she sentenced Mark Leffingwell, a disabled Iraq war vet, to six months in jail. Leffingwell pleaded guilty to assaulting police after admitting to punching two officers during the Jan. 6 insurrection.

“So, it needs to be crystal clear that it is not patriotism,” Jackson told Leffingwell, according to a transcript posted by ABC News’ Alex Mallin. “It is not standing up for America. It is not ‘legitimate political discourse,’ and it is not justified to descend on the nation’s Capitol at the direction of a disappointed candidate and disrupt the electoral process.”

“Disinformation is not only available, it’s getting louder and louder every day,” the judge said. " You weren’t the only person to fall for it or embrace it, and some have embraced it who don’t even believe it. The lie that the election was stolen and illegitimate is still being perpetrated. Indeed, it is being amplified, not only on social media, but on mainstream news outlets, and worse, it’s become heresy for a member of the former president’s party to say otherwise."

“Cancelling out the votes of other people with a show of force is the opposite of what America stands for,” Jackson added. “It was the definition of tyranny, of an authoritarianism. Attacking law enforcement officers trying to preserve order and our seat of government, trying to protect the public servants in the building, isn’t patriotism either. It’s not what the military trained you to do and it’s contrary to the whole notion of supposedly caring about ‘blue lives.’ You don’t care about them when they’re standing in your way instead of in somebody’s else’s.”
