I know that magic feeling. Room lights off, tree lights on and blinking randomly, and an 8-year-old-kid in his glory parts the presents under the tree to make a space to lie in on his back, head near the trunk and looking straight up at the visual magic.
That was 53 years ago, and I can still see it, feel it and smell the pine. Some things are with you forever. Treasure the good ones to help deal with the unfortunate ones.
I wish that there was a branch big enough to sit on. I love climbing and sitting in trees. That is why it is me on the ladder with a chainsaw clearing dead branches.
I have Christmas lights up in my bedroom all year round, since it’s also where I watch television. It still reminds me a bit of Christmas, in June, when I see the lights on.
My previous cat, the first Christmas we got him we were worried about him destroying the tree, but we still wanted that Christmas tree glow… so I ended up running the strings of lights around the ceiling. The next year we purchased a few strings of icicle lights instead, and the following year I screwed hooks into the ceiling to add the colored net lights we no longer used outside (having transitioned to white). Even when we started putting the tree back up once more, I continued to do the nets and icicles because it just adds so much to the glow.

I’ll have to try that. I don’t have a tree, but I’ll be near Rockefeller Center next week.

Our favorite is to look at the tree with our eyeglasses off, making all the colored lights fuzzy.

Every year my son and I like to watch the Chip & Dale cartoon with the scene looking up through Mickey’s tree.

My ex used to just look at the tree with her glasses off because that was so magical.

Okay, I love this and especially how she preemptively includes Adam in the plan by ordering three cocoas!

Christmas Vacation II. They are in there with the squirrel and cat so you might as well bring snacks-and some sap resistant Christmas sweaters.
