Spicy salami pizza for me tonight.

Yesterday I mentioned the film ‘Frances’, but I was misunderstood as I was referring to that 1982 film with Jessica Lange and not ‘Francis the Talking Mule’ from the 1950s. I’m sorry.

As far as I’m concerned, the only place for pumpkin spice is in a good pumpkin pie. Served with a big dollop of whipped cream.

Does one use aerosol whipped cream instead of Parmesan cheese on pumpkin spice pizza?

I make my own pizza, and I suppose if someone requested it, I could make a dessert pizza using a sweet bread for the crust and pumpkin pie filling in place of the red sauce, but I’m 74 and that hasn’t happened yet, and I like to think the pumpkin pie spice “thing” has already peaked and it declining. The pumpkin pizza would take far less pumpkin sauce than what goes in a pie, so to avoid being wasteful I’d probably have to make a small pumpkin pie also.

My wife is from Kentucky and loves anything Pumpkiny. I, on the other hand, had never actually seen a real pumpkin until I graduated college and moved to Virginia to take a job. I can take it or leave it.

I don’t think a lot of people realize that pumpkin spice is just a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and sometimes allspice, all of which evoke a warm autumn flavor. I am not a coffee drinker, so I enjoy it in chai tea. It is a perfect addition the the right food or drink. I also enjoy pumpkin butter which they sell at Trader Joes, and would add pumpkin spice to pancakes, like I would add cinnamon.

I get the feeling that many who claim they dislike pumpkin spice either have either had an artificial flavor and those are always gross and oversweetened, or they just want to get on the bandwagon of being “anti-pumpkin spice”. In the better restaurants of the world, the top chefs regularly mix untraditional spices and foods to get amazing results. With this in mind, it is entirely possible for a pizza to be made with pumpkin spice where it tastes good, and I would try it as long as it had the right ingredients.

I’m with you Brutus. Pumpkin spice in anything but cookies, baked goods or pumpkin pie is beyond me. However, don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater. Fall has football, good food (aside from pumpkin spice pizza of course) Halloween, Thanksgiving and all the pre Christmas Hoopla. Pumpkin Pizza, even if it was free, no way…..

I’m no longer a big pizza eater, but pumpkin spice pizza sounds really gross. Now, pumpkin spice waffles might be a winner.

Forget the pumpkin spice. My concern about their dinner plans is over the wisdom of ordering from a place called “Itchy Eddie’s.” I want to know when his place was last inspected by the local Board of Health and why he’s itchy (since I’m not actually eating at his establishment, I can stop short of wondering where he has to scratch himself, and worrying that he might be using some of his cooking utensils to do it).

After eating that garlic kimchi you should be able to pass enough gas to turn your place into a bio-hazard site.
