I keep my $20s and a $50 in the wallet in my front pocket… and I keep the “small stuff” in my hip pocket wallet. I’ve trained myself to think twice about spending a $20… but don’t worry about spending a buck or three from the other wallet. Keeps my spending slightly under control. And I don’t have to sort past both the twenties when I’m looking for enough to buy a package of cookies.

Or still used books. I’ve heard library attendance or online use improved over the last year as restrictions were lifted slightly. I know I have read a good deal more than in past years, but then at my age, lots of my summer physical activities were shut down by the unrelenting heat. Couldn’t adapt to it as I did only a decade ago. Now it’s fallI I can get outdoor things done before winter slows me down again.

Yes we still use dollar bills. The lottery machine doesn’t take plastic.

Reference to more e-book downloads than borrowed books. My library hasn’t been open for 18 months.

So he didn’t finish the books? That’s the only reason a bookmark would still be there when the book is returned to the library.

She’s right, though. I’ve been to a library more recently than I’ve paid for goods or services with paper money. I have some in my wallet just in case, but it’s the same three bills that have been there since 2018. And I’m beginning to wonder, in case of what?

I did find a credit card in a library book once. It was expired, but it’s still not something I’d use as a boomark.

I think I took it back to the library and said, “If anyone is looking for this…”

I wouldn’t recommend doing this with your credit cards.

I prefer to pay cash, but I sometimes use plastic. So far I’ve resisted the idea of paying for anything with my phone.

That being said, I think it’s ridiculous that we still issue paper money worth $1. Dollar coins make so much more sense (for the same amount of cents). Not many machines take them, but of course that’s a chicken/egg deal; if people used dollar coins, machines would be made to take them.

Old business cards make great bookmarks and you get a fresh box full every time you change jobs.

One of my friends in middle school used money as bookmarks. I found a five or ten dollar bill in a book that I’d checked out one time, saw that she was the last one to check it out, and gave the money back to her. I wonder how many she left behind in other books and didn’t get back.

Ostentatious is using $20 or $50 or even $100 for book marks not single dollar bills.
