Social media says Facebook graduate scientists are more knowledgeable in the fields they “study” than any real reputable medical school graduate could ever be! /S
Here’s my ad for vaccination: “Is the Covid vaccine right for you? Ask your doctor.”
My other ad (depending on demographic) is a scene of government planes being loaded with case after case of vaccine. The voiceover will say: “Since ya’ll didn’t want it, the government is giving your vaccine to brown people in other countries. Thanks.”
Much of social media is slightly skewed in favor of the poster and his/her point of view. Question is, if you met this person, would you trust him/her? No way to tell, using a tiny screen that hides the facial and vocal nuances found in face to face conversations.
I’m a skeptic who long ago learned to check several sources when possible before making important decisions, vaccination being the latest. Our family is covered. I believe it was a good decision and that it will verified over and over again as the right choice. Completely ignoring social media, except this forum, occurred before the virus. It was another good decision.
I don’t blame Facebook or any other social media for misinformation. I blame the people who choose to believe what they see there.
It’s like walking down the road and seeing a pile of horse manure in the street. You lay down in it and roll around and then blame the horse for getting you dirty.
I believe the mainstream media hardly at all, Fox News even less, and social media not at all.
“A person who does not read the newspaper is uninformed. A person who reads the newspaper is misinformed,” – Mark Twain – It’s been going on for at least 100 years, folks.
An acquaintance did a search on some symptoms he was experiencing, and frantically called his doctor about them: lethargy, weight loss, depression, bloated belly, swollen legs, among others. He told his physician he thought he had EIA. His doctor referred him to a specialist, a veterinarian. Since EIA stands for equine infectious anemia, the patient must be either a horse or a jackass. (I’d put my money on the latter.)
my biggest problem with anti-vaxxers is they repudiate the science that would keep them well, but then clog up the hospitals trying to get the science that will save their (pejorative of your choice) lives.

Remember “Doctor shopping”. It’s so easy now, when people have given up on the idea of looking for an actual doctor.

I always shudder when I see people asking for medical advice on the net.

Docs don’t like it when a patient comes in having diagnosed themself based on information gleaned from the ’Net.
