He would have been better off watching a romantic comedy.

And that’s why Calvin has to put up with Rosalyn….and vise versa.

We just recently watched “Phantasm” (wife had never seen it..) with our 7 yr old grandson. Compared to a lot of todays horror it’s lame….but it did scare him!!

I remember watching the “Werewolf” on the t.v. one night alone, my mother’s Jack Russell wanted out, and as it couldn’t gain my attention, walk along the back of the sofa and stuck his hairy snout into my ear, just as Lon Chaney Jr was changing into the w’wolf! Those PJ bottoms were never the same……

Ever time something like this happens to Mom, I am reminded of the line from the Bhagavad-Gita; “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds” (Apologies to Dr. Oppenheimer).

I wonder if the movie Calvin watched was the suggestion Hobbes made yesterday…

Next panel, Calvin: I saw “I Was a Teenage Frankenstein”, and don’t look under the bed either.

I never understood why anyone would watch a horror movie.

Well, I suspect a lesson was learned by all. I foresee a babysitter in Calvin’s future. Hobbes, too.

I know we’re on sabbatical reruns from early days of the strip. Could this arc be the reason for the appearance of Rosalyn the next time they want to go out?

This strip was out in 1991, so Calvin could have watched “It” on TV as it came out in 1990. I like the Phantasm suggestion posted above, cult classic, as well as the Wes Craven ’70s sci-fi flick called The Hills Have Eyes: “Its Breakfast Time….”

I was rarely affected by horror movies, even when young, but there was one…

For a while, I would go up a hill to my friend’s house on Friday night and we would watch cheesy old horror movies on TV. This one night “The Screaming Skull” was on, and oh, it was bad. But the scenes where they had rigged up the screaming skull, really got to me. I still vividly remember how apprehensive I was during the walk home in the dark…

I’m sincerely lost in admiration for his mom’s speech balloon — the font, the outline — in panel four. Beautifully done. You can hear her shouting.
