It may have been a blatant Deus ex Machina, but hey, Louie is saved! That said, the cartoonist better not get too big a head over this, since implicitly HE is the reason Louie was in that situation to begin with…

Well, now I now how the Overboard Strip ends. The mice (rats) either chew through wiring or Jonas crashes either taking off or landing. This causes the ship to catch fire and sink causing every creature to jump OVERBOARD. The sharks are following; one says ‘Sweetie, they were rather rather tasty Thank you for the perfect date. A movie (Jaws) and a late dinner was a perfect anniversary present.’

Chip cannot provide a rescue, because he is an armed robbery victim in his studio during the time the ship sinks and the sharks have their meal. Chip has to reach for the sky during this sad time, consequently putting an end to the the strip.

Unknown to Chip, the Green Ship is nearby. The crew fires up the grill and cooks bacon and burgers. Louie gets a whiff of the bacon and burger, floats in air, away from danger, to the source of the wonderful aroma. Louie is saved, but unfortunately the rest of the crew isn’t. They have never floated in air.

Chip, in a state of shock and remorse, immediately starts Overboard Classics and retires from society to a deserted island where he keeps searching for the crew.

Hooray, the shark is dead! I didn’t really like the sharks anyway. But this is unusual for a comic that is known not to portray death very often. For example the pirates get into sword fights once a month or so but nobody ever gets injured aside from some mice bites around the ankles. The last death I can recall is about a year ago when Scratch admitted to catching and eating one mouse. Although then the mouse being eaten wasn’t captured on camera.

I really like the shark’s eyes (I think they’re supposed to be casters on the safe, but I’m sticking with eyes!).

Louis is safe! But… what will the green ship have to plunder upon their next raid, now that the safe is overboard?

Ha-ha-ha – the Cartoonist makes himself the hero – great job, Chip Durham! Love that Louie and we can’t have anything happening to him – maybe the safe accidentally fell from a plane passing overhead! ha-ha-ha

I, too, am happy Louie looks to be safe, but out of all the “from left field” endings we could’ve seen …

But, Louie’s safe. I’d better enjoy the victory.

    ’Evening, Crew.
