The man in the last frame could be our villain. Since he has an apparently framed copy of a Derby Dugan stip on the wall behind him, I think he might be a comic strip collector.

Derby Dugan is a fictitious strip from the Great Depression era, but it really exists in Tracy’s world. Have a look at the comments perople wrote on this 2015 strip where Sam was showing off his Derby Dugan Hannukah present:

Two guys reading while Tracy looks dashing and debonair. The excitement is killing me. Let me go 3D and I’ll solve the case of crushing boredom.

You just know some kid is going to see Tracy and compliment him on his costume and want his autograph. Tracy might actually do it and say that his “costume” was, “Just something I threw together.”

Tracy looks great today, I guess Abner’s arrow did not hurt him too much!

Maybe Mysta will zap Alldid and Tracy will have to arrest her.

Okay, but if we start showing the comment sections of the imaginary comics within the comics, thing are going to start getting weird fast.

“Elsewhere”…usually spells some kind of trouble?

1-SAM: Hey Tracy. What say we continue to ignore all the murders and major crimes that have been piling up lately and go to the bookstore?

2-DT: Great idea. There’s NEVER been any kind of crime at a bookstore.

SAM: Not so fast Tracy. What about all those James Patterson books that he “CO-WRITES” with those up and coming authors. Talk about a crime.

DT: Now, now. Being a greedy, salacious hack writer is not a crime, Sam.

SAM: His latest COLLABERATION is with Bill Clinton.

DT: THAT GREEDY HACK! Bring the thumb cuffs, Sam. If we get a chance to arrest him, I want him to SUFFER!

3-IN THE MEANTIME, IN BETWEEN TIME STAN LEE: I wonder what super powers I can give Derby Dugan so that he’ll fit into the Marvel universe? And how will he obtain them? Spider bite? Experiment gone wrong? Flew here from a planet far, far away? DAMMIT STAN! THAT’S DC DRIVEL! YOU’RE BETTER THAN THAT!

Going into the Summer season, it looks like most of the action will be on story boards.

Can Joe and Mike pull off a credible story? Anything is possible. Television has done it. How about a Perry Mason case such as The Case of the Absent Artist. Even on Tracy there were those cartoonists who drew Sawdust. Kerry Drake featured an artist who did editorial cartoons. If memory serves me right, he used the signature TNT on his work. Theodore Norman Thompson. He drew art work which brought out Scratchy Grimes, a drug pusher.

I wonder if Mystra’s outfit will look anything like the drawing of Vera’s.

The villain du jour resembles a cross between Mike, Doc Ock, and Gary Oldman’s Commissioner Gordon.

Derby Dugan isn’t wearing a derby.

Someone mentions Kerry Drake. Alfred Andriola’s creation was the closest thing to Gould’s Dick Tracy I have ever read in comics. His Rogue’s Gallery rivals the 30’s to 60’s of The Master Gould. Great Readings up until that time.

Wonder if Derby Dugan owed more to DC’s Doiby Dickles or Marbel’s Dum-Dum Dugan.

Why do I have the feeling the guy in the last panel is also in a basement? His parent’s basement.

Frady’s Books could refer to Tim Frady, creator of Caveman Comics.

Could this bozo with the mustache and heavy-rimmed glasses, a fan of Derby Dugan, be our long-awaited villain? A disgruntled and deranged rival of Vera Alldid?

If so, I guess it would be improper to root for him to squash Alldid?

That last panel – haven’t we seen that guy somewhere before or is it just my imagination?
