Shouldn’t she be painting bottles of moonshine?

[ OK, I plead guilty to using this same gag in these forums a few weeks ago.]

I will fly my flag at half mast until the United States can go 30 days without a mass shooting. I am 72 years old. Will I live long enough to fly it again with pride?

So the purpose of this is to vilify an inanimate object and not the human who uses it to take anothers life? Banningfirearms is like going to the doctor with a cancerous tumor on your arm and having him put a bandage on it and sending you on your way.

“Song of the Firearm”: I have only one purpose, and that is to kill. / I’m so efficient, you require no skill. / And when I speak, there’s seldom reply, / For those I speak to efficiently die. / But though I have but one use, I’m only a tool. / But I get the abuse when used by a fool. / As a tool, I’m inert. I am dead. / Not unlike my victims, when all’s done and said. / By so many, I’m loved and adored / And at the same time, I’m hated, abhorred. / It’s not my fault who to use me will choose / And put me to my singular use. / I’m easy to get. I’m everywhere. / So just remember, it’s your fault I’m there!

Wouldn’t those guns make a nice backdrop for someone’s campaign ads while running for a congressional seat?

I would that everyone see Jim Jefferies’s “Freedumb” concert. The bit about gun control (which is excerpted on YT) is well worth watching.

Using gunnut logic, under Article I, Section 8, Clause 3 States cannot require automobile drivers to have a license, cannot ticket them for speeding, or arrest them for drunk driving (unless they are in an accident).

The guns do nothing by themselves. Crazy people use them to murder people. The GOP and NRA make no attempt to stop crazy people from acquiring guns.

The NRA is decimated and the GOP is out of power. It may not be enough for gun control.

Chris Murphy says his career — focused on curbing gun violence — could be a “failure” as the legislation again looks headed toward partisan gridlock.

The mass shootings haven’t stopped plaguing America ever since. Nor has Congress ceased its perpetual stalemate on universal background checks for gun buyers. But Connecticut’s junior senator is leading the charge yet again on the issue — a mid-level policy change that would still be a high-water mark for activists who have spent years battling the NRA and most of the GOP. And this year, Murphy’s job is harder than ever: Expectations are high, while patience for compromise and delay is wearing thin.

Democrats control all of Washington, and their frustrated base wants to get something done by any means necessary, filibuster be damned. But as gun control legislation looks headed toward the same partisan gridlock as previous efforts, despite a gun lobby at its weakest point in decades, Murphy has little to show for what both parties respect as a good-faith effort. The telegenic young senator, his last decade in the Senate defined by gun violence, is struggling.

It’s incredibly heavy to be surrounded by such tragedy,” Murphy said in an interview. “I feel a real weight that if by the time my political career is done, we haven’t made significant progress on this issue, my time in Washington will be a failure.”

It’s not for lack of trying. Gun control is no pet project for the 47-year-old, who won his first election to the House at age 33. Murphy calls it the issue he’s “most passionate about” and “the motivating force for” much of his political career.

But, he added, “every single day, I wish there was a different" topic driving him forward.
