    Nauseous once described something (usually a taste or smell) which caused nausea (an uneasiness of the stomach that often precedes vomiting). When someone had nausea, they were nauseated. A nauseated person may have done something nauseous. Our evolving language has made nauseous synonymous with nauseated.
