The last Texas governor who wasn’t all hat & no cattle, let alone not bat crap crazy was Ann Richards. And that was a long time ago. Texas has been sliding down the razorblade of life ever since.
Abbot just pulled a Trump. That is where you change the conversation from the last dumb mistake ( the electricity fiasco) to a new, worse mistake. Notice the governor of Mississippi did it too. The new way Republicans rule?
Never mentioned is the reason my Texas ancestors wanted independence is Santa Ana had made slavery illegal and the Texicans rebelled against this change.
Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, Louis Gohmert … Texas has been suffering for a long, long time before the big freeze ever hit. I suspect the only thing preserving the sanity of 45% of the state has been Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower.
I live in San Antonio. Moved here 15 years ago and haven’t regretted the move. The political show in Texas is nonstop entertainment of a low variety. The most common comment I hear is that Abbot has done this to get out from under the heat caused by the weather a couple of weeks ago. He’s well aware that the directors of the electrical board do not govern only advise, but he still tries to blame them as he did the windmills. I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
It’s TexasWe have a son; he makes us so proud. Quite and independent child. His real names John, but he’s so independent we like to call him Texas. Texas grew up strong, smart, but above all independent. He always figured he could fix things on his own. Usually thigs went well, but sometimes he needed help, but was always reluctant to ask for it. Oh, and of course, he moved to Texas. He always said he was like the Alamo. Uh, son, you know how things really happened at the Alamo?A few years back my wife yelled, “Pa”.“Yes, Ma?”It’s Texas. He was in Houston when there was a hurricane. Everything he had was swept away. First of all, he needed a place to stay. So, I gathered thing up and went to help, got him situated, and helped a few neighbors too. Being a dad, I gave him a little lesson about preparation, because it’s what independent people do.
About a year later we got another call, “Pa”.“Yes, Ma?”It’s Texas. The state was hit with a terrible cold wave and no one has electricity. Pipes were freezing, people were dying, everything’s a mess. So, I gathered my tools and went to help. When I was done, I told Texas and his neighbors how surprised such independent people were not prepared. I hope this was a lesson learned.
A few months later it happened again “Pa.”“Yes, Ma?”It’s Texas again. Well, the governor decided that no one in their fair state was going to get sick form the virus anymore. The vaccines were out and, though not many had them yet, everything can girt back to normal. Unfortunately, many in Texas (including Texas) got sick. Now other states put in a Quarantine. Nobody can go near Texas. Nothing goes in, and nothing comes out. But for them, independence is what it’s all about.
We still haven’t figured what to do.
If you live on an island, you have to plan, and expect things to go wrong, just like those guys in Houston who keep an eye on the U.S. rocket ships. Redundancy is more than just a word.
Now that the power companies in Texas are going bankrupt to avoid paying THEIR bills . . . will they forgive the bills of their consumers ? . . . or return the money collected already from old people who spent their life savings ? . . . . /S
Ordinarily I would give Montana Swill the complete lack of attention he deserves, but I have to admit that I’m kind of surprised that nobody pointed out that William Safire wrote the line for Spiro Agnew.
n 1973, Agnew was investigated by the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland on suspicion of criminal conspiracy, bribery, extortion and tax fraud. Agnew took kickbacks from contractors during his time as Baltimore County Executive and Governor of Maryland.
Texas used to be a great place to live. The deterioration began with the school system. I worked for a small Exemplary school district in Texas after I retired. If I had kids, they would be home schooled.

Texas, a state run by Republicans:
No electricity.
No water.
No heat.
No masks.
$17,000 electric bills.
Why are Texas Republicans trying to kill their own people!
Human sacrifices offered up on an altar of failed Republican economic mythology.

A point. Though it might be better to just end their suffering…

Yeah, just leave them be. They’ll all die on their own, and you can just walk in and take over without wasting your ammo.

Republicans are against government regulations. Except when it comes to voting, of course.

I am tempted to fire a volley of profanities at those rich white turds, but I’m better than that. (I like to think I am.)

It’s “NABOB,” not “Naboob.” For heaven’s sake, consult a dictionary. That’s a big book with words in it.

Texas energy companies have plenty of money for politicians, but none for preparedness. Politicians must be cheap in Texas.
