I have actually done this (well, it wasn’t a button): I sewed the small rip in my pants right to the pants pocket.

The way to avoid this problem in future? Take the shirt off before doing the repair…

When I was a wee boy I was spinning around on my knees on an oval rug with a toy car—the rug was the race track. She did not want me to wear a hole in my pants so she said, “Stop doing that—you’ll make a hole—I’ll have to sew it.” I said, “Sew what?” Boy, that was the wrong thing to say! :-)

My mother made my dress for my baccalaureate night. She had just a few stitches left in the shoulder area and hand stitched them to my slip minutes before I had to leave. This was in 1969 and some of us still wore slips. The dress was white lace with tiny pink roses over satin with long lace sleeves. I loved that dress.

I can’t even thread a needle. Can’t cook either. I had to get married or starve!

You’ll probably need a bandage, too.

I left chores like that to my partner. She always complained that doing it myself just led to more work for her.

Oh no, Earl has a double. Or worse still, I fear this strip is attracting a multitude of Earls.

Well Earl I guess Opal is needed after all. My wife does all my sewing. I do not know how to operate that sewing machine. Computer operated!

Soon after we got married, I bought my bride a sewing machine. One of the smartest purchases I ever made!

I will never understand why commenters insist upon solving a problem in a comic that negates whatever humor the comic had.

I always figured that it came off because there wasn’t enough thread, so I keep sewing until those little holes in the button are filled up.

My first embroidery project in grade school was a pillow case. I was very proud of my work, until I discovered I had embroidered the pillowcase shut.
