Hmmmm. Let’s see … which party had two easy wins in two Georgia senate runoffs that everyone was sure they would win (especially since Democrats have an abysmal record in Georgia runoffs that were designed for that purpose)?
And which party’s president then told his party’s voters that their votes wouldn’t count?
And which party’s president then told his party’s voters that their REPUBLICAN governor and secretary of state, both of whom had voter for, campaigned for and donated to Trump, had rigged the election against Republicans?
And which party’s president’s representatives [referring to Trump lawyer Lin Wood] then told his party’s voters to boycott the election to punish the traitors and “destroy the Republican party”?
And which party’s president then was caught in a recorded phone call pressuring the Georgia secretary of state to FIBricate exactly the number of votes needed to win the state by one vote [which would not have even changed the final outcome of the election since no one state in question had enough electoral votes to change the outcome]?
IT IS TRUMP AND HIS PARTY WHO SHOT THEMSELVES IN THE FOOT.
It is not the Democrats who are crying; it is not the Democrats who have that big “L” for LOSER tattooed on their foreheads.
Does Steve Kelley really not know this
IS IT GASLIGHTING OR IGNORANCE?
But have at it Steve Kelley; have at it, TrumpubliCONs.
When the other side starts to form a circular firing squad, it is time to just stand back and let the shooting commence.
Kelley is predicting that actually bringing him to trial in the Senate is politically inept (at best). I see his point. But I think the only way we have a chance of moving on is to treat sedition as a real crime, and really prosecute it to completion. It might then be a good idea to issue — calming — sentences.
I remember the time when the republicans had the testicularfortitude to tell their president it was time to make like a shepherd and get the flock out of the White House!! With this bunch … NOTSOMUCH!! They would rather all go down in flames, just like their DearLeader!!
Seems odd there are only 4 Democrats when there were 10 Republicans who voted for impeachment. So are we to think Trump got his “firing squad” approved on a Federal level?
There is also the real possibility that the Democrats’ actions will be construed, with help from right-wing media, as burning Trump at the stake, thus making him a martyr. (An apology here to REAL martyrs.)
Tell me again the advantage to the binary, opposing, mutually-exclusive, “I’m right, you’re wrong”, “If you become the majority, we’ll obstruct, so there will be no legislation”, bitterly hateful, constituent-ignoring, political system and why you feel that it is actually for the best interests of the public.
This impeachment is not about The Donald. It’s about whether Republicans care about democracy at all. What possible offense is impeachable? If nothing is impeachable, then the next autocrat will be building prison camps like Auschwitz.
I am pleased, though, that the actual Senate trial will be delayed till early February giving the House more time to gather evidence against Trump to sway Repubs.
Wrong Steve. As you should have learned in grade school, actions have consequences. It’s just unfortunate that the members of Congress who aided and abetted the attempted illegal nullification of the election won’t be called to account until they run for their seats again. If the leadership of the House and Senate had any backbone they would do all they could to marginalize the traitors.
The Dems are shooting themselves in the foot by prosecuting a violent seditious act by the former president? Mr. Kelley, I see a cult deprogrammer in your future.
Great way to “push for unity”, left side. The man is out of office, defeated, and you still want to drag him through another impeachment. Get all of his supporters angry; that will help—- not!
After Federal and Senate investigations against Democrats find lack of evidence to pursue, Trumpers still chant “Lock Her Up” (etc.) based on their opinions… but even when Trump performs his misdeeds on national television, Trumpers insist that there is no reason to investigate – let alone punish…
Poor Skelley. So dejected T-p lost he has to excuse the actions of the party supporting Insurrection and Sedition and blame the party trying to hold him to account.
Yeah, quixotic!. If he isn’t brought to justice, it sets a precedent that Presidents can commit any crime with impunity. Likewise those who aided and abetted him. Help me out here — if someone commits murder, they are tried and if convicted, they go to jail or receive the death sentence. If someone murders 400,000 people (give or take), they get to go live at Mar-A-Lago? Doesn’t seem right.
The fact that Trump went to the WH to watch the riot on TV and refused to call in reinforcements and was not whisked out of DC for his safety shows that Trump was in control of the rioters and it was going as planned.
I really like this after they leave office impeachment precedent the Democrats are setting. Now when the Republicans are in the majority we can impeach Bill Clinton again!!! Maybe we could go back even further and go after Woodrow Wilson! ….Morons!!
The Republican silence on the RIOT PROVES that the Dems will never win get a fair and free election certified by Congress is the Repubs hold either branch of Government.
Do you think if the Repubs held BOTH houses of Congress in January that Biden would have been Inaugurated on January 20th?
They are going to do to the Election result the same thing that they did to the Supreme court nomination. Ignore the constitution and the will of the people because power is only a tool to amass MORE POWER.
The End Justifies the means, and their end is they control everything.
We need to find a way to remove this political step from the process of the election.

If the republicans don’t vote to convict the Rump they will remain the most vile lowlifes in the U.S. At this moment, it seems likely to be the case.

First of all, no one wants to execute Trump, just some of his most dumb ass failing policies that would only work for the wealthy and very pale.
As for new government programs , I suggest Biden have the CDC develop one for the urgent psychological treatment of deluded Trumpsters.
