Would you believe I just realized after a few years of reading this strip that Ensign Kenny is likely a takeoff on Wesley Crusher from Star Trek? Everybody hated the character as the weakest link on the show, and there was a lot of fan fiction about creative ways he could be killed off.

At least Ensign Kenny is not wearing a red shirt.

No eating the officers unless they have run out of redshirt candidates.
