That “Typhoid Mary” thing may be one of the problems with COVID-19. I think there are many people that don’t have any symptoms (or very mild symptoms) and unknowingly spread it to other people.

Of course, the signatures wouldn’t have been necessary if they’d actually HAD life insurance… But I guess nobody wants to insure astronauts.

I have Neil Armstrong’s autograph on a 1969 NASA Apollo poster (my brother and Neil were in the same fraternity). I thought it would be worth big bucks by now, but some internet research has indicated that not so much. I was surprised. Not that I will ever part with it – it’s a family heirloom now.

It’s called castoreum. The old French Canadian trappers used it to lure beavers to their traps. Just ask old Pasqiunel.

There was a documentary about Typhoid Mary on PBS. She was a cook for several families, and had several employer changes. When a health department researcher realized what several families with typhoid was her, an official went to talk to her. This guy started lecturing her, and demanded samples of her, uh, human waste

She was proud and stubborn. She couldn’t believe she was causing illness by contaminating the food she prepared. She refused to cooperate, so was arrested. A condition of her release was that she would never work as a cook again. But, among servants, cooks were the most respected, and highest paid. She couldn’t stand to have any lower job, and she broke the agreement, giving more people the disease. In spite of changing jobs and using fake names, she was caught, and arrested again. She was forced to spend the rest of her life in quarantine.

So that’s why it’s called a beaver.
