Another half mile could have proved interesting.

Those backpacks do come in handy in places with changeable climates.

Was she wearing the shorts under her pants? Or was there a convenient bush on her route?

If you go out for a walk, you can stop anywhere to buy anything and avoid carrying bags. She’s smart.

Walking is like running … you dress for the last mile, not the first.

Reminds of a bicycle century (Tucson to Tempe) I rode in college. The woman I was riding with stopped at the same point as Janis.

This time of year is such a challenge appropriate-clothing-wise

I have a backpack when I go on long distance bike rides. I often start with multi-layers in the morning and by early afternoon it’s the shorts and short-sleeved jersey

When I attended Geology field Camp in Colorado, that was the dress scheme for each day, and that was in August.

Come on Arlo! You know Janis is an experienced walker. This is standard spring/fall gear.

She’s obviously fatigued in Panel 3. Her arm swing is off rhythm.

My childhood friend from Kindergarten is known to pick at his family, and others in a joking way of course…just like his Father. So the family was on one of their large vacations in a very hilly terrain (7 adult kids with kids of their own now) While on a hike Kevin was picking on one of his Brothers, so when Kev wasn’t looking the Bro put a rock in his back pack. Old Kev was quite worn out by the time they got to the top.

Here in PA, this is usually the time of year when autumn can’t make up its mind on whether to be warm or cool, when we’re expected to hold Mother Nature’s beer often. November is the sobering time when she remembers it’s supposed to be cold.

Starting decades ago when we travel I started wearing a “day” back pack. I don’t normally carry a purse and husband needs a place to stash all of his stuff when we are going out for the day and will not be near our car/RV for his stuff including snacks in case his blood glucose drops low. Note – it is for his stuff, not mine and I wear it not him.
