Hot Springs, Arkansas. has a row of bath houses downtown which date back to when people thought the hot mineral waters could cure all manner of ailments. They also have fountains where people can take empty jugs to fill up with the hot water to take home to drink, but I’ve never been able to shake the idea that those fountains may be the run-off from the baths.
the “best” natural water is fresh snowmelt, which hasn’t had time to grow bacteria or dissolve dangerous chemicals yet, water from a fast flowing stream or coming from a natural spring would be the next best because the water’s agitation combined with flowing through sediment can act as natural filtration that removes bacteria. Though it is likely to dissolve trace minerals which can be good or bad depending on where it is. Tap water artificially replicates that effect by filtering out the bad stuff while adding trace chemicals to kill the remaining bacteria and minerals that we need like fluoride, the only flaw is a slight metal taste it might pick up flowing through your pipes, but running it through a mineral filter at the faucet can eliminate that. Virtually all bottled water comes from the municipal water supply, it’s much cheaper to just buy a brita or pur filter if you don’t want to drink raw tap water.
I did a water quality study in college comparing fecal coliform counts from a natural spring that emerged from a pipe into an artesian well, a mountain stream, and a city pond. The city pond was worst and the spring was best, but all of them had some. I don’t recommend drinking any water that hasn’t been filtered, treated, or both.

And many streams have giardiasis, no matter how crystal clear the water is.

Given the eons that animals of one kind or another have been around, I would assume that ALL water is “Recycled” by this point in time…

Sunny is wrong, tap water is processed to remove chemicals left by pollution.

Didn’t they do an analysis of bottled water once and some of the bottled stuff turn out to be just plain tap water?

Just don’t forget to change the filter routinely. Otherwise they can grow bacteria, defeating the purpose of the filter.
