Why am I not surprised about the eagle/tree bit?

Mouglas DacArthur must’ve been quite the soldier to get a parade that long.

The Washington, D.C., authorities told him “they can no longer preserve law and order,” the president’s statement declared. “In order to put an end to this rioting and defiance of civil authority, I have asked the Army to assist the District authorities to restore order.”-Herbert Hoover

MacArthur removed the WW1 ‘bonus army’ from DC in 1932.

“The Gadget” sounds a bit underwhelming for such a weapon. The ones they ended up using on Japan had better nicknames (“Fat Man” and “Little Boy” I believe).

MacArthur was a horrible general but family $$$ kept him on the rise. The whole Philippines return , not needed strategically, was to protect his family’s huge investments there. Many lives wasted by this man and the finally came when he wanted to nuke North Korea but was quickly fired by Truman instead. The return photos were staged and came only after the area had been secured and sanitized. My Dad was there to witness. Mac never took care of his troops either.

Truman was an idiot. FDR was 100% better. He actually cared about the people.

You need to get your spatula out to scrape the bottom of the idea barrel for some more stories like that eagle gem.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had serious delusions of MacArthurhood.

You’re all confusing WWII with the Korean War. (Police Action).

The question is, did they postpone the rescue just for the occasion?

Seems kind of mean to leave an eagle stuck in a tree until July 4.

The eagle wishes they had freed him two days earlier, instead of waiting to make a publicity stunt out of it :)

Didn’t McArthur want to go in and “straighten” things out with the Soviets or Chinese?
