John Lewis stood up to, and was beaten by, fascist officers enforcing tyrannical brutality. He defied the law — thus his reference to TROUBLE, good trouble, necessary trouble — in the defense of right and justice.

Trump and the Republicans are actively working to restore a twenty-first century update of the fascist officers enforcing tyrannical brutality today — the modern counterparts of those who John Lewis stood up to.

Sadly, if we really were all John Lewis, we wouldn’t be living in a country where the president can use militarized goons against the country’s own citizens.

I think some of the John Lewises are actually white from the marches I’ve seen.

And on a related note, that needs to become The John Lewis Bridge. The sooner, the better.

My first thought was “Eisenhower clones?” Then I saw the sign and caption.

AND, as was proven in Richmond, quite a few of the “Protestors” creating conflicts with the masked stormtrumpers are actually White Supremacist groups trying to start riots to discredit the BLM Movement.

I would have said John Lewis is all of us now.

John Lewis will be sorely missed.

At the start of every day I dial into https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ to look up the latest US death toll from coronavirus. Between yesterday and today it skipped entirely over the 151,000s and now stands at 152,358.

2016: “I alone can fix it.”

2020: “I don’t take responsibility at all.”

We all should be John Lewis. Wouldn’t be in this boat if we were.

There were many heroes of the Civil Rights movement. Ordinary people became extraordinary. There’s a spark of heroism in each one of us, if we care to find it.

If one were to cast an eye to the bottom of the comments, one would see the little notice that Mr Luckovich is a Pulitzer winner. This cartoon is an example of his skill. Most excellent.
