They all wear crampons on their shoes in Saskatchewan, Bucky. The better to deflate pompous Siamese.

Canadian football is played on a shorter, wider field than the US version, and a team gets three downs instead of four. In the equivalent of the Super Bowl, teams play for the Grey Cup.

Roger Aldag is too big to walk down the sidewalks of Saskatchewan.

I will never forget Swift Current, Saskatchewan, where in 1974 I was pulled over for being a long haired hippie along with two female hippies in my car. After an illegal search, (of course we had some pot) and brief imprisonment the two Americans were directed to the border while the Canadian (whom I would later marry) was blocked from entering the USA. Long story, but I am am glad it was not Texas.

Canadians have a problem with taking responsibility. They’re always passing the puck. ;-)

Ah well, the rivalry goes on. Canada’s great. I am a natural-born U.S. citizen, but I could easily enjoy living in Canada. But for all our faults, I’m content to live on my Pacific Northwest island!

Bucky has half a point. I don’t even know what to do with a Nordique, should I ever meet one. Or even how I should know that I’ve met one.

Satch could have went with the league leading Toronto Raptors. Now, basketball takes mad skills to play on the ice.

A guy from near my hometown in PA played football in Canada and was all cfl league from 1958 through 1960. Then he was all pro in the afl from 1962 through 1965 in Buffalo. He was supposed to play for Cleveland when they had Jimmy Brown but the league found out he was just out of high school at age 18 in 1953. That would have been some backfield. His first two years in Canada he played in old rugby league and was MVP for his teams each year. His name Cookie Gilchrist. What a guy!

I remember Cookie when he played for Hamilton. He was loud and brash, totally untypical for Canadian football players at that time.

Isn’t the football different as well? Made from cat skin and can last through nine games?

Roger Aldag is 66 and now works for SaskEnergy in Regina as head of the Land Services department to the delight and humour of his coworkers, who often see his bobblehead figurine around the office.
