I keep thinking about how hard it is to push a line of grocery carts and keep them going in the right direction. Dill’s brothers will give up before the parade gets started.
My dad was a teacher in a town that loves to have parades in summer (well, they used to), and businesses, organizations, hobby groups, and neighborhoods were welcome to take a place in the lineup. I thought he ought to march with a sign that read, “80 Years Old and All My Own Teeth.” Didn’t happen, though.

Why the bewildered expressions, it’s a simple statement you hear practically every day.

Mom better pay attention or she’s going to slice off her thumb.

Mom, don’t break her spirit. How much harm can Dill’s brothers do, anyway?

Funny how P.O.V. can differ, from giddy babbling excitement to grave concern.

We’ve cancelled our parade. However, I am allowed to wear my Shriner’s hat and drive my miniature car around the backyard tomorrow.

Dill can dress up as Good King Wobblewheel and Alice will be perfect as Mad Queen Rattlebasket.
