Christmas is about family togetherness after all.

The Small Bear and I are spending a Hercule Poirot Christmas. If you ever saw the episode in which he plans to spend his “with a Demi kilo of fine chocolates, the radiators that are warm and his book”. But don’t tell out diabetic nurse that that’s what we’re planning.

The kids in my life cannot wrap their brains around the fact that I’m completely not bothered about gifts and only interested in seeing friends and going out to do nice things like wintry walks and theatre to celebrate a holiday.

We never know how long we have left with the people we love.

Make as many of these moments as you can.

We have a lot of Christmas specials, movies, and TV-show episodes that we watch every year. My girls & I have been watching 1 or 2 every day together. Everything from the Monkees Christmas episode to VeggieTales (we have something like 5), to “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “The Gathering”. We have so much fun watching together.

Love my siblings but going from a nice quiet house to a houseful of folks for lunch and a small Christmas celebration can bring on a nice nap after everyone leaves. Still have 2 more celebrations before New Years, Christmas Day with my husbands family, and then Christmas with my children and grands after Christmas. Stressful time of the year but love each and everyone of them.

    Lynn’s Comments:

This actually happened. We were about to go to a house party when we realized we’d left the kids with a sitter too many times. We had just started the car when we decided to go back into the house and be a family. It turned out to be a great evening.

If you can get that level of ‘home’ for a few minutes, it is worth any number of parties.

That’s us. Me, the Mrs, my cousins from Saskatchewan and our girls got in yesterday from uni. And my MIL and 3 dogs and 5 cats. All sitting around and watching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in The Gay Divorcee

I guess I have to disagree with everyone: You take care of your family ALL the time. Mom and dad deserve a Christmas night out with adult friends of their own – at least once during the season.

It looks like my comment from last night got deleted right away. As before with all my other deleted comments, it had no bad language, no religious or political references, no personal insults. I wish I knew what rules I am breaking, but after e-mailing the moderator several times, I have gotten no response.

In any case, the essence of the comment was that it was miraculous to see Elizabeth and Michael sharing and getting along with each other, which is something we have seen only rarely. I suggested that Elly and John may have made a different decision about staying home if their kids were acting rotten when they left.

Now what is there about that which would cause a moderator to need to delete? I have no clue. If any of you know what rule I am breaking to keep getting my comments deleted, I would love to hear it and correct the problem.

My daughter moved into her first apartment over summer. We work for schools so are off. We spent Christmas Eve and Day at her place. Slept on a futon in her living room. Ate at a plastic crate. Watched movies, played games. Just the three of us. Wouldn’t change a thing.
