How could anyone think ill of such an adorable senior citizen couple – of course her story is completely logical (ha, ha) – but the smoking in a non-smoking area – that’s another thing -

Oh and not for nothing but… youd think that Cowboy Carl there would have pointed out that theres no smoking in the building AND escorted them out of the backstage area instead of just letting them wander around on their own
Coffee Grounds doesn’t work security, but he is Vitamin’s agent. He is quite capable of evicting undesirables when the spirit moves him. He tossed Selfy out on his keister three years ago.
Sometimes audience members accidentally wander backstage so usually the stage manager does not get mad at them but respectfully shows them the way out. He is running the show at the moment and calling the cues on his headset so audience members backstage interrupt the flow of the show and is dangerous for the audience member who doesn’t know how to navigate the maze of the backstage.
As many here know, I am a professional actor and scenic designer. A few months ago, I was involved with a professional production in Chicago. A woman in the audience got up during the performance to go to the rest room creating a disturbance in the audience as she tried to navigate through an entire row of seated patrons. The show was in progress. When she returned, she accidentally (by not noticing a sign on the door that said “Do Not Enter, Employees Only”). She went into a dark passageway that led from backstage to the front of the house. Why she thought that passage would lead back to her seat when she didn’t exit the theatre through a dark hallway is a tribute to her IQ.
At any rate, she ended up backstage and was unseen by the Stage Manager who was in his booth. Trying to find her way out of the backstage area, she went through a nearby door which happened to be a door in the scenery. She walked directly onto the stage while a very dramatic scene was in progress. The actors were surprised as was the audience. The actors stopped the scene and one of them helped the woman off of the stage and back to her seat. The audience applauded the actor who helped the woman and he took a bow and went back onstage and continued with the scene.
At intermission, the woman asked one of the ushers where the rest room was. He showed her the door with the “Do Not Enter” and said I’ll show you where the rest room is if you promise not to go in this door again. Nobody got angry. In fact, all of the actors were laughing about it after the show.
Clair Howell and her Jimmy (it’s not been made clear, not to me at any rate, whether or not they are married, just co-habiting, or not even “together” at all except for business) are in their own eyes pretty darn slick. I doubt that Coffee is so oblivious, though. He must, I think, at least ask that they refrain from smoking in the house! I’d bet he will be keeping an eye on them as they putatively leave the backstage area….
