That’s why we were set up as a Representative Democracy: the voters were to trust the “experts” to make the best decisions for the country. If things went well, vote for them again. If not, vote for someone else. The people were to be reactive to their Senators & President; not the other way around! Why should North Korea policy be influenced by a poll of voters who don’t know the facts like a House Intelligence Committee member? Yet that member is going to kowtow to a survey of 1000 general people? Incredible.LEAD US! THAT’S why we voted for you!

Bill Clinton should be in this one. He wouldn’t go to the bathroom without taking a poll first.

Correction, Abe: that CERTAIN people elected you for.

Unfortunately, the Framers failed to anticipate how their Electoral College would one day lose its accreditation and become the mechanism by which to disenfranchise the greater percentage of voters. Sounds like amendment time to me [see yesterday’s TPO].

Dems need to move on impeachment if they want to improve polling numbers.

As a math guy who occasionally teaches an AP Statistics class, I take umbrage to this. We have a representative democracy. The people who represent us are elected to represent the will of their constituency. How else can one know what your voters want unless you ask them?

If your constituency does not agree with you then you either have to resign, bow to the will of the people or convince them to your point of view. If you don’t do those things, why should they re-elect you?

It’s “political courage” when you accede to MY demands. It’s “pandering” and “cowardice” when you accede to THEIRS.

I dare the dems to go down the impeachment lane it would be a blood shed at the polling booth. The dems would lose not only the house and Presidency but also lose in the Senate.

This is why each and every one of us must get out and VOTE! ALL OF US, especially the youth! Read, think, discuss, decide and VOTE! It is the ONLY VOICE that We the People have. If we don’t use it, we have only ourselves to blame.

If I had the misfortune to be an elected official, I would never conduct nor consult polls, nor meet with my constituents. I would read a few TONS of news articles and opinion pieces (from all points on the spectrum) about each and every bill to be voted upon. Then I would flip a coin………..

Should I view this as a call to the House to ignore polling and proceed with impeachment?

The House has already opened an impeachment investigation against Trump. Forget the political optics. As a matter of law, the Judiciary Committee’s actions are clear.

We need some politicians willing to offend “the masses” in order to help them. Those pictured above (Lincoln excepted) are too POLL-lite.

So what is the best leadership then? Is it voting the way you feel despite what your constituents want, or is it voting the way your constituents want despite the way you feel?
