Ollie has an honest to goodness smile today. He really likes the l’il tyke and has what it takes to cover both mom and dad roles, except for the more family times she needs.

The conversation is shifting away from the mystery of Trixie. So we’re not going to learn what happened to her?

Warbucks must have one hell of a reason for keeping quiet, considering that as long as she doesn’t show any proof of life, there must be a lingering suspicion that he’s murdered her.

Just keep Annie away from Wendy Wichel.

Very interesting, but boring.

Annie could do well as a journalist, since she has someone who can pay for her to do it. There is no money in journalism anymore. A lot of even famous journalists need other sources of income (e.g. books and TV appearances) these days, since newspapers and magazines have been cut down to the bone.

And now on with the next case!!!

“She’s growing up so fast” ??? It’s taken her 95 years to age about 1 or 2 years lol

It seems that Oliver’s main strategy to avoid talking about his ex-wìfe is to change the subject to the girls.

I’m going to try to get a few more comments in about the Annie characters before this story rapidly comes to a conclusion.

Gyspy Gay really didn’t appear in very many strips. Here are most of her appearances. On February 20, Trixie was trying to figure out how to get Oliver to propose to her and Gypsy didn’t exactly disapprove but didn’t do much for Trixie other than wishing her luck. Tricking Annie into liking her was Trixie’s main strategy.

Trixie was more in love with Oliver’s money than with Oliver himself, but Gypsy reasoned that Trixie deserved the money and any man would be lucky to get Trixie.

Once she did marry Oliver, Trixie’s main concern was getting rid of Annie and Sandy and alienating all of Oliver’s closest friends. On May 27, her gripe, which she complained about to some of her friends, was that Annie stood to inherit half of Oliver’s billions whenever Oliver died, leaving Trixie with only half of the fortune. Gypsy reasoned that Trixie should be happy with her half.

Finally, Tim Jackal came up with the idea of a separation with lots of alimony. Gypsy really disapproved of this idea, as was shown in the strip I posted before. While she accepted the idea of Trixie marrying for money, conning Oliver out of alimony and moving out was going much too far.

Career plans? Aren’t these girls just approaching junior high?

Good career choice, Annie. You can just keep at it until Warbucks’s money runs out.

growing up fast? ON WHAT SCALE?

I was a little taken aback by the remark about a “small town” – but I’m guessing they’re trying to tell us that Oliver plans on moving to a small town after this visit to Tracytown (Chicago?)

There were a couple of times that Annie’s wanderings brought her into contact with newspaper people – mostly small town papers – during Harold Gray’s run on the strip.

I have no idea what the Tribune powers-that-be may be thinking, but today’s strip could be seen as a set-up for an Annie spin-off. Or, as others have said, a brush up with Brenda Starr.

It would be interesting to extend Annie’s story as she grows up. Maybe Dick Tracy is the only platform left where she could do that.

I would love to see Brenda Starr or Steve Canyon appear.

Yet another wasted day

So, I’m looking at buying a TV news network. (Lessee, the Annie Broadcasting Channel… ABC – naaah, it’s been done… CBS, perhaps? I’d have to get rid of the eye…)

Pleeeze, no Brenda Starr, Steve Canyon, Yellow Kid, Krazy Kat re- intros. This strip is supposed to be Dick Tracy, not a resurrection of long dead toon characters. If you folk want to read about these characters, try IDW, great reprints.

Poor Annie. The work of journalist is tiring and often criticized by mean people.

I had a thought the other day…some time, when Joe and Mike are looking to introduce another baddie, I have a name and occupation for him: drug cartel boss named Nichloas Auregua. (Nick.)

1- WARBUX: Playing a little pocket pool there Tracy? 2- TRACY: I’m sure I don’t know what you mean. WARBUX: Sure you do… 3- …chalk up your stick, hold it just like this and… TRACY: Stroke! You’re giving me a stroke with that kind of talk!

Don’t tell me Annie is an orphan. Look at that man’s eyes. Now look at Annie’s eyes. If that’s not Annie’s biological father, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle.

So, young Annie seems, at least for the moment, to be leaning towards journalism? That is a potential career that could lead to all kinds of adventures (as war correspondent, investigative reporter, even gossip columnist or TV anchor/presenter) that would be fodder for stories here. Not made explicit by Tracy at this point, but Honeymoon seems to be interested in the detective business, her family business, one might say (Pop-Pop, Tess, and Junior are all involved in it to one degree or another)….
