There are too many other choices on the shelf and their’s is the same as ours. People will shop for what they know works until they are convinced that switching will yield an improvement.
From a business perspective, it’s because the market share of the new product isn’t big enough yet to stop making the old one. However, any business with multiple products should be able to absorb a complete swap one product at a time until all of them are cleaner. It might take years, but it could be done. It would, however, be bad practice to do an across-the-board revamp of all of their similar products at once, as they could actually lose money (as opposed to a simple reduction in profit).
By the way – “water”, “air”, even “soap” are “chemicals”. The brownish colour of (even organic) bread or fried meat is due to a chemical reaction called “Maillard reaction”. Many people judge chemistry or chemists collectively because they have no clue….
Actually, detergents for at least the past 45 years have been made with an isomer of the detergent molecule that environmental bacteria are able to break down.…though it’s possible that China doesn’t use the same safeguards as in the U.S. - all they care about over there is money (blink-blink- …Communists???)
