I once got stopped outside the place I was going for breakfast when a grackle perched in a scrubby orange tree in front of Waffle House and launched into an elaborate routine. He had plenty to say, and he made sure the world heard all of it.
If you’ve been around grackles, you know that no sound they can make could ever be described as musical, but even though I don’t speak bird I could recognize that his performance had structure and logic behind it.
I couldn’t help sticking around for the entire show.
I was hearing a phone ring when I was outside (rural) and knew it wasn’t mine. Soon learned it was a mocking bird. One day I was serenaded for 10 minutes without hearing the ring and I spoke directly to the bird, saying “so you aren’t the phone bird?” Right away, “ring, ring”.

I enjoy listening to music while I read. Music sharpens the mind.

Birdsong. Not as annoying as wind chimes, but very close.

Should have brought Peekaboo along. BTW, which bird can be really called a song bird – as in, musical?

Isn’t this out of character for Jimbo?

I would love to have a bird sit close and sing. I feed them an can only watch them eat.

That sounds cool. Grackles are smart and quite beautiful.

A birdie chirping around you can be very pleasant. Lucky you.
