Asylum seekers LEGALLY trying to escape the persecution, violence and instability caused by policies of Nixon and Reagan met with tear gas illegally shot across the border and into a sovereign nation.

Babies torn from the arms of their parents and locked away in cages.

Now babies being gassed as they try to run with bare feet already sore from walking a thousand miles to escape persecution and violence in their home countries.

No need for gas, those of us still paying attention to our conscience were already crying.

…at least they pay taxes. Unlike some 1%‘ers. When the President shows us his taxes or when the Mercer’s, who originally backed Ted “Get Rid Of The IRS” Cruz, who owe in excess of $6 Billion pay their fair share. Then I’ll worry about supporting the guy working for minimum wage and paying taxes… supporting them? Most of them are supporting us.

Tolerance is in short supply lately as we forget that we are not a closed monolithic society like Japan. Our internal divisions are exacerbating our reactions to the immigrants. Here’s an excerpt from a paper/talk by Roger Pilon of the Cato Institute. While he is not completely objective,(especially about progressivism, size of government, etc) he raises some important issues about the importance of tolerance.

    " …

In sum, the world envisioned by the Declaration, even when fleshed out more fully than I’m able to do here, is essentially one of live-and-let-live. It’s a world in which we’re free to pursue happiness as we wish, even if we offend others in the process—a world that tolerates disrespect(that second sense of tolerance I noted earlier), but respects rights, the violation of which cannot be tolerated(the first sense noted earlier). But of course it’s also a world that encourages tolerance(the third sense), because in a free society, as history demonstrates, individuals who can bring themselves to tolerate and even respect the differences of others are more likely to engage in cooperative exchanges with those others, and both parties to a contract, by definition, improve their situation. Thus freedom, tolerance, and prosperity are intimately connected.

America’s motto, E Pluribus Unum, out of many one, stands for the idea that America, with exceptions, has been open historically to immigrants from around the world who then have become “Americans.”

    …"

P.S. Here is some data on government size.

Let’s not pretend that the “immigration policy” that Lady Liberty is holding in her left hand is a model of justice and reason. America’s immigration policy is a hodge-podge of disparate attitudes and procedures thrown together by a wide variety of players, with dissimilar interests, over a period of decades. It’s the classic example of a camel being a horse assembled by a committee. The USA does not have a coherent immigration policy.

Frankly I shudder every time Congress takes up the issue, because they usually end up “fixing” it so it’s even worse than it was before (kind of like the way a photo-ID requirement for voting “fixed” the “problem” of voter impersonation or the War on Drug-Using Americans “fixed” the “problem” of substance abuse).

Maybe Trump could borrow some of those snipers from Israel. They are good at maiming and crippling people on the other side of a border. Sometimes the wounded die, but that’s accidental. Shooting them definitely discourages them from crossing over.

This breaks my heart; asylum seekers are very different from someone attempting to cross illegally. Those morons in the WH couldn’t tell the difference if one of them jumped up and bit ’em on the ass.
