The United States is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. If you have the opportunity to see it, do so. I’ve been lucky: military assignments have taken me all over the continent (and overseas). I’ve flow over it as a pilot – you get a much better view out the front window.
Recently, I’ve gotten out into it on the Appalachian Trail (OK, that’s kind of “hard core” but if you can do it, it’s worth while).
I realize that not everyone can be as fortune as me, but if you can do it, you won’t regret doing it. I think you may get more out of it than a trip to Disney Land.
Europe has the history, but the United States has the scenery.
A few years ago, as a handsome present my brother took a couple of his wife’s cousins (from England) on a two-week motor tour of western US. The youngsters, aged 18 or 19 I believe, rather managed to come across as jerks. For example, they were quite uninterested in the scenery, stupefying as it is. (But at least in their case they preferred to keep their noses in books.)

Ironically, ‘Lookout Point’ was the last thing he said and did before his phone hit the bottom of the cliff.

I was at Yosemite back in the ‘90s. People were videotaping cliffs. Not waterfalls, cliffs. And they weren’t panning, just holding the cameras steady.

This is why family vacations are the worst.

Safety first. With children you can’t be sure enough. You are responsible until they fly out.

They’d rather watch the Teletubbies.

As if the kids in the car are going to be watching any video they get from their parents.
