My favorite line from the movie “The Rainmaker” (1997), where young lawyer Rudy Baylor kicks off a deposition with the prominent lawyer Leo Drummond, who is representing a clearly corrupt health insurance company:
Baylor: I’m curious.
Drummond: About what?
Baylor: I’m just wonderin’… do you even remember when you first sold out?
You have to know your audience – and the response from this guy shows that Mike didn’t do his homework for the job interview.
His answer should have been “Yes, I sold out – and I was damn good at it! You want these skills put to work to put your viewpoint forward. You have to fight fire with fire!”
I was told a long time ago, by one of Madison Avenue’s top executive, that Advertising & Marketing, and Public Relations were “whores businesses”, because you were constantly prostituting yourself to the client and the public.

Calling that “whoring out” is an insult to whores. The whore offers a service and delivers what is bargained for at the price agreed upon. There is no dishonesty involved at all.
My best boss told me years ago that, yes, our jobs did not make the world a better place, but we made enough money to support causes that did make the world better.
